School these days have dress codes and it’s one of the biggest complication for students face today. Students are not allowed to wear holes in there pants, heels above four inches and dresses above knees. students dislike their school because of these regulation . They choose not to get their work done, and fail tests because teachers send them to the office. our school doesn't allow students to wear holes above her knees. sometimes the hole might be the size of a nickel and they have to covered up by cloth or their parents have to bring them new clothes.
They initially fail SOL’S because they are mad at the teacher for sending them to the office.. They also can't wear clothes they bought with their own money. They are not allowed to wear
should be required to wear uniforms. According to Lisa Flam, author of the article, “Are School
The prominent reason behind the various overdone school rules regarding dress is the loose power that administrators have been given. They have been “reserve[d] the right to determine if a clothing item or accessory is appropriate for school” (Carroll High School Student Handbook 2010-2011 18). The officials at school are using their own personal opinions to judge the students’ dress. Since styles change as time goes on, the generation in control and the
As the temperature rises, so do hemlines and the suspension rate. Students get suspended for violating school dress codes by wearing outfits that ‘show too much skin.’ One can argue that revealing clothing is distracting, but some families and students agree that school dress code implementations end up just shaming girls. Dress codes, the epitome of high school, teach girls to act ashamed, not modest. According to most school boards that come up with the dress code, the outfits young women wear come across as too distracting for their peers, especially men, and make it unable for women to be viewed by the public with dignity and respect. Everyday, school dress codes target females—especially females that are more developed.
The people who are in charge of creating the school dress code don’t think of girls feelings, or their need to be an individual. There are also some unnecessary rules in schools, and what schools deemed inappropriate or distracting. The schools are taking some of the girls rights away. I believe that the dress code for the younger generation is too focused on girls, and it’s way too strict. Students should not have to wear school uniforms, some schools went for believing it would get rid of competition.
The N.E.I.S.D. dress code is more open to other fashion trends being allowed in school because the N.E.I.S.D. code allowed more styles. Some of the clothing we are wearing to day want agents the school's dress code. Some of the rules are not enforced by the other theaters and students at school.
You're in English class. The teacher asks a question to the whole class, and you raise your hand. Then your shirt goes up. Instead of getting a smile from your teacher for getting the answer correct, you get a one-way trip to the main office. Well, this is what happens to so many girls at school every day. The dress code Brings girls self-esteem down, and you can miss So Many hours of class time.
Some students have been tied into the misconceptions of the First Amendment Rights. One of which are uniforms and personal clothing, uniforms are used in a lot of schools, it is used for discipline, school safety, and to prevent political and social problems (Faqs). Students have the right to know, meaning they have the right to ask questions and to know what they are doing (Banning Books from the Classroom). Parents also have the right to protest against school work or books that could cause harm to their children (Banning Books from the
In April 2015, a Texas honors student was sent home for wearing yoga pants and an oversized shirt that covered her entire backside. In August, a Kentucky student was sent home for showing her collarbone. After her mother brought a scarf to cover her neck, the administration still deemed it “inappropriate.” In Indiana, a 12-year-old student was suspended and missed two days of class. The offense: tight pants. Other dress-code violations include baring shoulders, wearing a tank top, or exposing a bra strap. Should girls have to miss out on some of their education because of a collarbone or tight pants? These are parts of our bodies that are “distracting”. Should girls feel shamed about their bodies? However should school be an appropriate environment?
“School officials have a responsibility to provide a safe, secure, and productive learning environment.” Therefore, schools have dress codes because the safety of students is very important. A teacher’s number one priority is their student’s safety and to have a good learning environment. All students should have the same right to their education. Is the clothing the students wear distracting others from learning? It is distracting to others, but that is not the only reason why schools have dress codes. Schools also have dress codes because it helps prevent students from being bullied based on their clothing, especially if they wear something offensive or inappropriate. It also helps them prepare for professional environments as adults in the workplace.
School uniforms have become more a distraction for teachers/administration than it has for parents and/or students. Teachers and Administrators perceptions of a uniform violation/infraction seem to have gotten out of hand. It further goes on to explain: optional articles, criteria’s to determine hardship status, and compliance measures.
Dress Code Debacle Wearing baggy sweaters borrowed from the school, taping sticky notes under holes above the knee, having long arms, but your shorts still being too short etc, etc. An everyday reality for students who are just trying to persist through the day. Kids have been taught to wear certain things and to avoid others at all costs. No open toed shoes, no bandanas, no hats. We are taken out of class until we get rid of the problem.
Why Student Dress Codes Should Be Limited Dress codes date back to the time of kings and queens. They were made to control what the people wore, what colors they could wear, and what style of clothing certain groups of people could and could not wear. Student dress codes are put in place to help keep a safe and comfortable learning environment, no matter what gender, race, religion, sexuality etc. They unfairly control what students can and can not wear. Although student dress codes have good intentions, they are unfair and need to be limited because they are too strict on female students, take students out of class and send them down the wrong path, and teach girls the wrong things.
I don’t think it’s going to be effective if they violate dress codes policy. Even if they are punishment by getting lunch detention they will still make the mistakes again by wearing whatever they want. Dress codes will not stop us wearing whatever we want. They are a lot of restrictions when it comes to dress policy. For girls, you can’t wear skirts and shorts if it's not touching their mid thighs.
This article makes the reader see the dress codes are becoming an issue for school and the student’s education. In a small Texas school district, over 700 students were suspended in a single month (Essex). That is a lot of students getting in trouble and just for clothes. I do believe school are going too extreme when comes to the dress code and how they punish the students who break the dress codes. One-day suspension for the first violation, a two- day suspension for the second violation, and two-day plus loss of school privileges for a third violation (Essex). Missing school or class time don’t really help the children with anything and sometime it will be over something stupid like; the collar bone is showing. Another thing about this article,
I believe everyone should be able to wear whatever they want, however they want. The way people dress can be a way of expressing themselves, especially if it has to do with their gender identity. Kids have been sent home from schools because they were dressed like the opposite sex. Schools should be more open minded, schools should not have strict dress codes, and want kids to express themselves however they want.
