I am currently a member and the treasurer for the Ironbound Initiative. I am also involved with the Patient Partnership program as a First-Year representative and am the director for the Mini-Med Program at NJMS. In addition, I am a member of the All E.A.R.S Program at NJMS and I sing in the Vocal Chords Acapella Group.
2. Why do you want to participate in this global health trip? What are your goals, both personally and for the two-week trip as well as after the trip?
Through my participation in the Ironbound Initiative I have come to recognize the significant health disparities and lack of access to care in the Portuguese and Brazilian communities in New Jersey. Therefore, I hope that through this trip I will gain experiences and

What do you think will be your greatest challenge?
On this trip, I anticipate communicating with people of a different culture may be a challenge. Although I do not speak Brazilian Portuguese, I know that we will have a bilingual interpreter with us as well as NJMS students who speak both languages and thus, I know that the language barrier will not be a big challenge. More than the language, I want to be contentious on this trip regarding acknowledging my privileges and that I need to understand the Brazilian approach to medicine in the context of their culture as well as the resources available to them. Furthermore, I understand that I have limited knowledge and skills as a first-year medical student and so can only provide basic medical services at this time. Therefore, I am most apprehensive about effectively understanding and communicating with the Brazilian community and recognizing that currently I am only able to provide a limited amount of aid to these communities.
4. How do you plan on financially supporting this endeavor? (Are you willing to fundraise as a team, as well as apply to the available scholarships?)
I fully intend to apply to any available scholarships in order to fund this trip. I am also looking forward to working with other students going on this trip in order to organize fundraisers such as bake sales and raffles. I also intend to start a GoFundMe page as well as seek out local businesses for sponsorship. Finally,
The Joint Commission is scheduled to visit Nightingale Community Hospital for its triennial accreditation survey within the next 13 months. The purpose of this document is to provide senior leadership with an outline of the hospital’s current compliance status in the Priority Focus Area of Communication. Recommendations for corrective action are included in this document which are designed to bring the organization into full compliance in the areas where deficits have been identified.
Mission: To create a healthier future for children and woman throughout our global community by leading in patient care, education and research
This paper will step out of the comfort of the first world American lifestyle and look beyond to the health and social issues around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) is the leading stakeholder in advancing the awareness and support on global health issues along with the United Nations (UN) and other governmental and nongovernmental agencies. Only once the issues of these vulnerable people are identified can these organizations move forward in addressing and prioritizing the rapidly evolving global health agenda. The Millennium Development Goals will be defined briefly, however, since their goal completion date has ended, a future look at follow on program, Sustainable Development Goals seems the best place
Studying abroad allows me the opportunity to experience completely different entertainment and tourism systems which I can integrate to the rest of my school year to help me achieve my degree. Apart from studying, I can apply my new-found knowledge to my life and the way I approach the world around me. My short term academic goals are to complete my classes with A’s and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with concentration in Entertainment and Tourism Management at CSUF by 2018. After graduation, I see myself completing a Masters degree within the next three years in Management and working in a large hotel, meeting new people and facing challenges and overcoming them every day. I am grateful to have opportunity to apply scholarships to assist my journey to fulfill my

I am a student in my second semester at Eastfield college. I plan to get my associate’s degree of arts and then transfer to the University of Texas at Dallas’ Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communications program. As such, I would like to take all the experience I gain from Eastfield and use it wherever I may go in the future. I would like to receive the scholarship to help me join Phi Theta Kappa and maintain my commitment with the organization.
I believe that I would be an excellent candidate for the Daughters of American Agriculture Scholarship. This scholarship would allow me to pursue my passion in the Agricultural Industry.
I believe that this scholarship can help me to achieve and succeed my goals. It also would provide great support not only financially but also provide

Two goals I hope to achieve by going on this trip are exposing myself to different ways of life and learning how I can help others in need. It is evident we are not all the same. Some of us have had to overcome greater obsticals than others, yet we are all living for a better something. I want to learn about the social issues I am unaware of that people have to deal with on a daily basis.
I find this helps to enrich my understanding and appreciation of their local practices and traditions. Last summer I travelled to Brazil to present at an international conference. I experienced frustration in many situations due to my inability to communicate in Portuguese. Thankfully, one of my classmates acted as a cultural broker and interpreter to help enhance our experience of Brazil’s vibrant and enthusiastic culture.
My passion for global health stems from my experiences as a child. Growing up as a child of Mexican immigrants to the United States, I had the opportunity to visit family members in southern Mexico every few years. While I savored reconnecting with relatives, my awareness of inequalities bolstered with each visit. My relatives live in rural areas where economic adversity is persistent and access to quality healthcare is sparse. Contrasting my relatives’ experiences and opportunities with my own exemplified to me how one’s life is shaped by economic conditions, healthcare access, education systems, and one’s birthplace.
I have always been aware of global issues and needing to understand what is happening in the world has always been important to me. However, I never understood global concerns through a health paradigm. Many of the concepts presented in this course were not new to me, as I have been an active participant in global issues and organizations, such as Spread the Net Campaign to end malaria, as well as many different human rights causes. However, the new insight I gained was in regards to
In any case, providing competent care to a patient of a different culture must first start with an understanding of the culture itself (Potter & Perry, 2011). Culture is
