God and evil exist. In the same world; at the same time; both with significant impacts on the world. Why does the inherently good creator of the universe allow something so heinous to be?
In the quest for the answer to the problem of evil and the truth of God’s existence theodicies have been created; methods to comprehend the ways of God. A strong theodicies has three concepts: (1) God is all powerful, (2) God is all loving, (3) evil exists (Elwell 414) and must be internally consistent to avoid self-contradiction. It is important because theodicies must be logically consistent and hold to a theological position; if a theodicy is logically inconsistent then the problem arises that there is no explanation for the problem of evil and God is no longer all-loving or powerful. On the other hand if a theodicy is logically consistent yet holds to no theological position then there is no God that answers the problem of evil and God no longer exists. If a theodicy is not internally consistent then one of the three causes is false. Anyone can see that evil is present on the world making it the one factors that is permanently accepted; making one of the other aspects of God false.

There are two types of evil that seem unrelated but correspond directly with one another. Moral evil is the “Evil produced by the hands of moral agents” (Elwell 414) meaning that moral evil is the result of bad choices made through free-will; i.e. war. When moral agents make poor decisions the effect is not only shown in human interaction but also in nature. Natural evil is the consequence of moral evil in nature; i.e. earthquakes.
