As time goes on, the world’s technology advances; with every outbreak of a hot virus, the world can use the newer technology to uncover more knowledge about these viruses. Comparing two separate time frames displays the differences between what medical professionals and the general public knew about dangerous viruses such as Ebola. For example, the codes and regulations on how to handle Ebola in the 1970’s were much were vague and lenient compared to what is established today. Medical personnel have strict rules to follow when handling such a hot virus in the global world that exists today. For these strict guidelines to be established, researchers had to have found more information about what Ebola can do to the human race. The increasing political involvement requires physical meetings in the same space which can only be achieved by flights. Even decades ago, experts were aware that once a virus is brought into airports, it can be easily transported anywhere in the world, within hours (Preston, 1995, p. 16). Infected victims who step aboard an aircraft and travel to other nations, have now also transported the virus within them. Containment becomes near impossible attempting to find individuals who could have been exposed to that virus. Now the virus is causing mass destruction in two nations. However, CNN (2014) said, “the chances of the virus spreading during the journey are low” (p. 2 para.8) This statement contradicts what Preston originally thought on certain levels. It can be proven that once the virus has entered national airports, the virus can then start to spread in two different locations.
