Why I Chose To Attend College

My reasons for wanting to transfer are mainly due to my unusual high school and college path. I began high school at the same time as my peers, but unlike them, I left after completing the 10th grade. My high school was unusual in that it ended in the 10th grade, and the graduating class was encouraged to attend one of the other high schools in the district or the local community college for the last two years. I didn’t feel as though those were the right options for me, as I felt as though I needed more than a high school and I wanted a more rigorous education than what I would find at either of those locations. After extensive research, I came to the conclusion that the University of North Carolina at Greensboro was the best school for me. I am transferring to receive my Bachelor’s degree in Public Health. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro offers an amazing program in Public Health, which is completely online. The Bachelor’s degree in Public Health is a program designed to receive your degree by completing courses at home. I am eager to learn all of the material required for me to be successful in the career of my choice. My ultimate career after receiving the Public Health degree is to become a Medical and Health Services Manager. I hope to achieve this goal and make my family proud. I know that going to Oregon Institute of Technology will open many opportunities for me and will lead me to achieving my goals. It’s not only the best choice for me educationally wise but it's a place that I can see myself calling a home. After visiting the University of St. Thomas, I was mesmerized by it’s beautiful campus, friendly community, and comfortably sized classrooms. I had no doubt in my mind that the University of St. Thomas was the school that I wanted to attend. But after talking it over with my parents, they were hesitant to approve my decision of picking St. Thomas as my path for the next four years of my life because of the overwhelming cost of attendance.

I am currently a student at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. I originally applied to Kettering because I thought that I wanted to be an engineer in the automotive industry, and Kettering, being the former General Motors Institute, had one of the best programs in the US to be an automotive engineer. I worked hard to get accepted into Kettering, and I was excited to start college., I joined multiple clubs, and rushed the fraternities on campus, choosing to join Beta Theta Pi. I had a great time my first term at Kettering. However, during the second term at Kettering I started to realize that I was not having the educational experience I desired.

When everyone hears the name York College, they look at me like I’m Medusa. They become stoned and mute making me feel as if I made the wrong decision. York College, in many eyes, is “bad” or “you will never find a job if you got to York College”, or “York College is boring, nothing “big” ever happens”. Every day I would hear this cynical comments about my future college. My parents had a messy divorce, and we just never had the chance to leave. “My place” has always been Denver, Colorado because most of my family lives there. Family for me is so important. Luckily, I got blessed with a beautiful family that is just full of love. Unfortunately, we all live in different states. Although cheer and my education are very important, i want to be able to have a good student life. Even tho I say a good student life I do not mean good parties, and crazy people. As a member of a small community I have always dreamt of going away to college. Currently I go to Hunter College in Manhattan, which although is a very nice school, it also takes me two hours by ferry and train to get to class on time. I have also visited the campus and felt more at home than by going to a commuter school in the city. Hunter College does not offer much of a campus life and it would be hectic for me to join a club or a sport due to the travel time. I’ve experienced that feeling and environment before at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, a boarding school for juniors and seniors that provide college-level classes. I had to be put on antidepressants and go to therapy because of the environment. I did not want to go through that feeling again at Cornell. I hoped for the best as I investigated the lifestyle of OSU-IT. I scheduled a campus tour and instantly felt at home since it is a small college in a small town. The environment felt warm as well because there were places where students go to relax on campus and to talk about their problems. Although I did not visit Cornell, I knew I would not enjoy the more stressful environment. The only positive aspect of studying at Cornell is the label. Employers think highly of a graduate from an ivy league and are more likely to be hired because of its highly selective acceptance rate and challenging academics. However, OSU-IT provides paid internships and the career placement rate at 90%. After intense examination of Cornell and OSU-IT, I decided to go to OSU-IT for obvious reasons. OSU-IT is affordable, homey, and provides med with the right tools to have a steady career. I am proud to say that I will be a part of OSU-IT in the fall of this

You are likely going to start looking at apartment complexes and houses around the area that make you feel more at home and are way more appealing than what you are currently living in. Not only are you removing yourself to such quick access to your university and its resources, but now you are spending your money elsewhere, when it could be going right back to your college if they would have provided you a more positive experience your first year. I know this because I went through it. Living in the dorms has not been the greatest experience, and all I can think about is how I can not wait to get out and live in a more appealing apartment next year. Of course I could move into an upperclassmen dorm building, or even the on-campus apartments, but I definitely will not be doing that after the campus housing experience my university has provided me this year. My dorm room and building SCREAM boring and outdated. It has affected me and my experience so much that I am choosing to spend hundreds of dollars more someplace else just because I can not stand it anymore.

One of the major decisions one has to make after completing the high school is to decide between the university and a community college. Even though the community colleges and universities serve the same purposes, they still differ between their convenience, learning environment and requirements for admission. The learning environment is the key factor to be considered when choosing the to attend a university or a community college. Worcester State University and Becker College are both located in Worcester, Massachusetts. While Becker College is a 4-year private Not-for-Profit institution, the Worcester State University is a 4-year Public Institution.
