Tolerance and diversity are important to me as a future health care provider because everyone should have equal access to excellent health care, irrespective of his or her race, social class, religion, sexual orientation, political viewpoints or other beliefs and opinions. We should all have the same rights and we deserve to be treated with equal respect.
The reason why I chose to further educate myself to become a medical assistant is because I love the servant role. Ever since I can remember, I pictured myself in the medical field. I find myself genuinely enjoying helping patients, taking care of them, seeing them smile after the fact; It brings me joy. Not only I find myself enjoying being in the medical field, I also see myself grow in this area. My ultimate goal is to become a Registered Nurse. I want to be a MedServe Fellow for several reasons, with the ultimate goals of improving my community and providing a stepping stone between college and medical school. One of the main things I want to do during my gap year is gain clinical experience, something I believe I need before applying to medical school, and this program fulfills that desire. I could do research in my gap year, but working in a primary care setting would be the most beneficial in preparing me, not only for medical school, but for my career. My career goal is within primary care, and while I also could gain experience via an EMT route, I feel that MedServe provides a unique opportunity to truly experience and understand primary care. I want to have a more active role
Anything could have gone wrong. A Japanese soldier murdering my grandmother as they marched into her small village during the Rape of Nanking. The Communist forces dropping an aerial bomb on my mother’s home before the Fall of Saigon. My father’s old fishing boat capsizing in the South China Sea while escaping Vietnam before his miraculous landing in the Philippines. From time to time, I reflect upon my family’s fortuitous circumstances in the darkest periods of war and their tumultuous journey to America. Being the eldest child of second-generation war refugees has significantly impacted my life decisions and aspirations. Neither of my parents finished their education due the Vietnam War, so I have the privilege of being the first in the

I have had a variety of experiences that contributed to my overall motivation to become a health care professional. My passion for medicine began when I was an adolescent being evaluated and taken care of by my pediatrician, Dr. Gonzalez. As a kid, I loved being active and playing several sports. However, I consistently had shortness of breath, wheezing, and tightness in my chest during my sports competitions, which my parents quickly noticed. I visited Dr. Gonzalez who knew from the symptoms and experience that I have asthma and prescribed both an inhaler and nebulizer for me to prevent further complications which allow me an opportunity to continue playing sports. I began succeeding playing all sports, and was extremely grateful for her medical knowledge, support, and advice. I was ecstatic knowing that she was going to ensure I stayed healthy and also become successful in various ways. . In middle school, I began looking into the health care careers to explore my options. Now that I am older, I envision myself in Dr. Gonzalez’s position one day. I know I have all the right qualities to be an amazing, caring children doctor.

I believe that being respectful or showing respect is one of the most important values that everyone should have as a person in general because it shows that you appreciate the individual and that they are worth your time. I plan to uphold this value by always treating not only the patients but everyone with respect and treating them the way that I want to be treated as well as showing respect to my profession. I would also continue to uphold this value even if I do not agree with certain decision that the patients may make because I believe that each individual person has their own right to do whatever it is for their own selves and there is no reason for me to persuade someone with my own beliefs. I also believe in and value the principle of accountability. I believe that being responsible is another important value for me to have because it shows that you care and that you are thinking of the best interest of the patient. I plan to uphold this by taking responsibility not only my own actions, but also being accountable for my colleagues and ensuring that the patients is receiving the best quality of care. I also believe in the value of honesty and integrity. I believe that being honest and truthful very important,
