Steve Jobs once said, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to truly be satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” With that being said, I love being a nurse. It wasn't always a dream of mine, but one experience can change the path of your life even if you don't realize it at the time. When I was a little girl, each summer I spent several months visiting my grandparents in Tennessee. My great aunt was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and was living in a nursing home. To understand my passion it is important to understand my struggles first. My husband and I have fought for several years to begin our family. After many years of trying naturally with no success, we have been going through fertility treatment and still have yet to come out on the other side. I want to become a Nurse Practitioner and work with men and women who long to have a family of their own just like we have. I want to be able to relate to my patients and share in their sadness and joy, educate them about their options, and give them hope when they’ve lost any possibility of a family in their future. I want to work for something I truly believe in, and for those reasons I am choosing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I know there is the option to attend Drexel University’s Women’s Health program, but I feel that I have a lot of dreams including Women’s Health but also in many other aspects of Family Nursing including Primary Care, Pediatrics, and Urgent care facilities.
