What is needed to do in high school for preparation for the job would be training. Law verifies that every state requires paramedics to complete formal training and get licensed. A full program of math and science classes in high school would prepare you for the job. Knowledge of math will prepare paramedics to calculate and predict right before something even happens. Because paramedics need excellent commutation, English and speech classes are important. Schools that offer programs to prepare you to become an EMT would be in Georgia, Walhalla, and Chicago. To develop the skills for this job would be to try to speak to people often so that you would not be scared to talk when on the job, pay attention to what you might have on your job and listen more to what people have to say. A year ago, when I played basketball and volleyball for my school, I had to learn how to listen to my other teammates and the people in the bleachers cheering while still focusing on the task at hand. There were times when I had to block the ball from a really good hitter during volleyball and people depended on me to keep the ball on their side. There is also the pressure to make the last point in the game to win. These experiences are similar to those of an EMT because both must think fast in order to get the job done.

However, the area of practice that I am currently most drawn to is emergency medicine (EM). What draws me to EM is that it is face-paced and team-oriented. In addition, not only do you get to see a variety of patients, but you also see a variety of diseases and injuries. This being the specialty that is of most interest to me, it is important that I understand what exactly being an EM PA encompasses.
