I first got involved in theatre when I was 7 years old. It was never something I thought I would be doing for the rest of my life. I had first done gymnastics as a little girl for a few years. Then, I started playing soccer on a soccer team in my community. I started acting at classes down at my local rec center. Then, I auditioned for the musical my first year in middle school and fell completely attached to putting on a big production. Throughout the rest of middle school, I took choir all three years and was a part of all the productions and participated in Drama Club. At the end of my 8th grade year, I was inducted into the International Thespian Society. I decided to get serious about my training after my sophomore year of high school. I started training programs at the Denver Center of Performing Arts with Allison Watrous and other faculty members. The …show more content…
Recently, my senior year in high school I have begun training with Jennifer McCray Rincon with the Denver Academy of Dramatic Arts at Visionbox Studios. The work I do there is intensive training at working with rich, powerful, and classic texts in scene study classes and audition classes. I am passionate about working in the performing arts industry for the rest of my life. I am also passionate about humanitarianism, history, women and gender studies, and social justice. I aspire to be just like Angelina Jolie, a beautiful and talented artist and humanitarian. As an artist, I strongly believe that we owe it to the world to create thought provoking pieces with our creativity and our work. I want to persue a career in the field of acting because I cannot imagine doing anything else. There is nothing as satisfying than feeling the energy of a stage, or feeling the rush of joy from the work. I want Cornish to be my next stepping stone in my life to help me discover more of myself as an artist. I want Cornish to help me become an even more passionate artist and find me new passions
I have a passion for theatre and storytelling. I’ve acted in twelve productions, covering a variety of topics. Part of the reason I love theatre so much is how much it’s expanded my perspective. Last year I was in a production
It is my aspiration to develop software and products that meets the needs of those who use them. When you take a look at the makeup of the tech industry professionals, it is common knowledge that there is a substantial gap in terms of gender and race. As a result, the products and applications created for social, business, or personal purposes created with a male Eurocentric type mindset. One basic idea of creating user products is making sure the product itself represents and attests to the needs of people. When the group creating products shows lack of diversity in identity, this can neglect to meet underlying needs or wants of different groups of people.
According to J.K. Rowling, “I would like to be remembered as someone who did the best she could with the talent she had”(J.K. Rowling Quotes). Because I want to be remembered as someone who did the best she could, I can relate to J.K. Rowling. I did not mind writing when I was little as long as it was not assigned.
I really fell into acting a bit later than some actors do. I was a jock in high school and took drama class to hang out with girls--truthfully. My drama teacher told me he was putting me in the school play, while insisting that I had a talent and that I should investigate it. His dedication to teaching and love of the craft is what really first piqued my interest in acting, although I still didn’t consider it as a professional career at that point. It really was a slow progression of taking more theatre classes in university and eventually realizing that I was taking more theatre classes than any other subject! The romanticism of the acting lifestyle had slowly but completely engulfed me. I ended up majoring in theatre and at about 23-24-years-old, I got an agent and have never looked back.
Ever since being a little girl I have imagined myself somehow being apart of the arts. Growing up, I was lucky enough to have auditioned and been chosen for an elite theatre camp located in New York City called Destination Broadway. I can truly say the day I was chosen changed my life. I grew up dancing, singing, and acting and loved every second of it. The camp not only taught me about acting, but it also taught me about the business itself, and everything that goes into television shows, movies, broadway, etc. I got the chance to meet people in many different fields in that line of work, and it provided me the experience to learn that their is so much more that goes into to production besides the actors and directors. I was lucky enough to
Growing up, having a sporting background has given me knowledge in both the physical and practical aspects of sport and this has made me decide to apply for a course in sport related degree with confidence and excitement.
My interest in healthcare began in my senior year in high school. Before this revelation, I had vision problems and was prescribed corrected lenses. I continued to have visual difficulties and sought assistants from various professionals. I later learned my deteriorated vision was due to Karatoconus (KC) – a disorder of the cornea that results in visual distortion. My ophthalmologist advised me that my condition would worsen until I eventually become blind. Because of the late stage of diagnosis, the only option available was a cornea transplant, which at the time cost US $12,000 for one eye. This was a high cost for a single parent family with two children in rural Jamaica that had an annual income of about US $4,000
It is important that I provide background, as it lays the foundation of why my personal goals are what they are, and what I hope to achieve as I work toward them. Having been shaped by both challenges and victories, I believe that I have emerged as a more sensitive, caring, and worldly educator, open to new challenges and change that occur in our ever-changing world.
Theater has been such a crucial element in my life. My first musical was in the 4th grade and I haven’t stopped performing since. I participated in my local community theater: Magic Curtain Productions until the end of 8th grade. Once high school started I completely fell in love with theater all over again. I met wonderful people there and I got to expand my craft. I started at the lowest level musical theater class and by the start of my junior year I was placed into the highest theater and musical theater class. It felt amazing to be able to be in more advanced shows and to be able to work closely with my two directors. I remember two distinct memories connected to theater that I hold very dear to me. The first was when I found out that
It was then I finally realized that Disney stars were only actors. The thrill of knowing I could be any character I wanted to be completely pulled me to theatre. The first community theatre show I saw was A Christmas Carol and it was filled with actors the same age as me. I can remember sitting in the audience thinking of different interpretations of multiple characters. In the second grade, I was reindeer number three in our Christmas show at Oxford Elementary School. Although reindeer number three was not the best role, it ignited a spark, a true desire to act. As my elementary years passed, I was able to attend field trips and see many wonderful shows but never took the chance to be part of one. I took the risk and auditioned for my first show seventh grade year and surprisingly got cast. I got an ensemble part in, none the less, A Christmas Carol at the Green Room Community
I was once often told that I will never be able to use English like a native speaker in my younger school years. English is my third language. To many linguist, I may be regarded as an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) student. There may even me preconceived prejudiced notions that I do not use English enough or that I do not have much use of English to be able to attain native-like proficiency in the language. I am one of the EFL learners of English who is not demotivated to learn and use the language despite obvious criticism at a young age.
Generally speaking, I would prefer to work in a productive or protective capacity. Either capacity will consist of an innumerable amount of work that needs to be done. As a result of the workload, my work setting will always be positively occupied, thereby creating more constructive conversations. With that mindset, I am more interested in the legal and educational fragment. Both sides require me to be fully equipped and knowledgeable. It also allows me to interact with life changing, eye opening topics as well as expanding my knowledge to produce information to those I interact with. In that regards, I plan to further my education to acquire the requisite and rightful degrees to pursue a career or careers in such fields.
For as long as I can remember acting has been my passion. There is nothing more exhilarating than getting on stage and performing. I will never forget the time in middle school when I had my first real performance. My hands were drenched in sweat, my body was shaking, everything was frozen, until that big red curtain open and I went off. In that moment I realized, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
I excelled in high school, which is why I was able to get a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom. When I came to study in the United Kingdom, I did not know that it would even be possible to pursue studies in musical theater. The dream of performing on Broadway was planted when my teachers in music class recognized my talents and had me audition for several musical plays. My performance in those plays was good enough that directors looked for me again to play more and more important roles. Recently, I have played the lead role in our school's production of Mama Mia.
