Growing up, having a sporting background has given me knowledge in both the physical and practical aspects of sport and this has made me decide to apply for a course in sport related degree with confidence and excitement.
I have enjoyed studying physical education at G.C.S.E level. The physiological side is what I most enjoy, Understanding how the body works and how we are able to improve skills fascinates me. As well as the academic content of the course I have also enjoyed the practical aspects. At my first secondary school I was a member of the school soccer and Gaelic team. In my position as captain of the school Gaelic team for two years, I have gained the opportunity and have learned how to motivate and lead a group of people.
My enthusiasm for Gaelic football first came when I was in secondary school when I was chosen to be the team captain. I was delighted at the end of that season when I was presented with a vocational schools all-star ward and also sports man of the year award and youth leadership award from my college. Playing for Gaelic football county development squads throughout the years and then playing for the provisional Ulster u16 elite team and representing my county when playing for Derry minors gave me the opportunity to gain more skills and experience in Gaelic by playing alongside people

At GCSE, I was able to gain an in-depth understanding of not only the physical side of PE, but also the theory, which has now been developed. Learning about theory aspect of sport has appealed to me as well as the business aspects, learning why elite athletes have the edge in competitions and why different types of sport require different components of fitness. Being a blue belt in martial arts and competing from a young age and being a Gaelic footballer has thought me this, I find that being physically fit helps to improve my mental
Being an athletic trainer in various sports for over five years, Pete has a great deal of insight and suggestions for someone who is interested in the field. As I am now considering a supplementary degree in athletic training, Pete has been exceptionally helpful in guiding me through that world. As many of my courses in Kinesiology also apply to an Athletic Training degree, he proposes that I get another bachelor’s degree, as it would take only a short period of time. In lieu of that option, he recommends that I begin a master’s program in athletic training upon completion of my current degree. Nevertheless, I must first decide if this career is the proper choice by evaluating the negative and positive aspects.
Studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science would not only offer the potential to be at the cutting edge of sports and exercise development, but I expect my learning would raise interesting principles I could apply to my own training and competition, whilst also acting as a stepping stone towards my ambition of working alongside elite sports teams as a head of athletic
My interest in Kinesiology and Health Sciences stems from my background in athletics. During my senior year of high school, I suffered a severe back injury that prevented me from finishing my final year as a rower and from continuing to row in college. I participated in extensive physical therapy, and although the road to recovery seemed to never end, the person who motivated me, pushed my limits, and helped me feel understood was my physical therapist. She made a large impact on my life as an athlete and in a deeper, more personal manner and I found myself wanting to do the same.
What I found interesting about this was how the other students saw me as a role model and was able to come to me for help asking me about sports and how to improve their fitness, whether it was basketball, football or just training in the gym. I learnt how to inspire, because of what I was able to achieve just by helping and mentoring others. Science and sports has always kept me engaged in my educational life as well as my social life; playing basketball at a local community centre and taking part in event such as football tournaments indoor and outdoor. The skills gained from these experience has helped me in my own life such as taking charge, decision making, being organised and being able to adapt to change in situations. Attending different sports tournaments helped me improve in different areas of sports as well as dealing with different type of competitions and challenges. During my secondary school education I formed a team and competed in an indoor football tournament against other team within Birmingham. It was challenging but I kept the team together and we managed to come second in the tournament, which then lead to us competing with other team across the country. Many skills and experiences were gained during this time and also my attitude and behaviour towards my goals changed; I became stronger, more positive and more determined so that I wouldn’t give up in my future goals. I
Sport helps me release stress as well as providing health benefits. I also gained a Volunteer Passport award for volunteering at a local charity which benefited disabled individuals. The skills I learnt from both my sport and volunteer involvement include leadership and teamwork skills, which I hope to apply to my life at
I enjoy this because I love sports, and I am not the type of person that can sit still in a desk all day, and type at a computer for hours. I am a person that likes to be active, enjoys an adrenaline rush, engage in conversations with people, help people, but one thing I love the most is to solve a problem or challenge, whether it is mine or someone elses, and see success after all the hard work that was put through to overcome this challenge. In researching athletic training and physical therapy programs, I learned that in your junior and senior year of college course work would include clinical experience, which allows me to get out of the classroom and into real life situations. As with anything in life, there is no such thing as perfection, so there are pros and cons in every situation. The pros of attending the University of North Carolina are being in a region of the country I enjoy, having nice weather, being in the country, and having family down there with me. On the other hand, the cons of attending the University of North Carolina are there acceptance rate to out of state students and the cost of the education there to out of states students. Likewise, I hope that if I am accepted and able to play volleyball for UNC I will make an impact on people, not just on the team, but on other people on campus, in my classes, or the patients that I will treat and help them get
Do you want to pursue a career in sports? If so, what areas are you most interested in pursuing? Why?
Being apart of the Sport Performance programme will help me strive to learn and reach these goals.I also have goals and passions outside of athletics, this programme will also help me to improve my fitness and stay focused on my winter sports, for example Netball.
During my time studying Physical Education and sports I have undertaken many research assignments in a variety of topics. Some examples of topics included anatomy and physiology, and assessing risks in sport. Completing these assignments has been a challenge, however it gives me a chance to progress and further my knowledge in Physical Education. I am an active person with a wide variety of interests outside my college life. I have a keen interest in sports in general, and I have
Before I get into it, I want to talk a bit about myself. When I was still in high school, my aim was to get into physiotherapy. That was my ultimate goal. I wanted to be a sports and injury doctor for soccer players. A few reasons hindered that and as a result I went with my second choice which is Criminology. I still have the ambition to become a physiotherapist but I understand that it is harder to achieve considering I am 8 months away from graduating from a completely different field of study. Before class 2, I have not even thought of physiotherapy for a few years. After that lecture I realized that I can do something that I love which is be a part of a soccer team. Not as a physiotherapist but as a mental performance
At GCSE level I studied Physical education in which I received 2 GCSE’s as I did 2 courses in 2 years. This was accomplished due to my devotion to the subject and hard work which allowed me to achieve A*’s in the practical parts of the course. However, the physical education theory is the area of the course that particularly feeds my hunger to learn every aspect of physical education, as it gives me more potential to be the best teacher possible. Understanding how the body can complement exercise through nutrition to reach maximum capabilities within the sport as well as living a healthy active
I feel strongly about the inclusion of PE as it can completely change the attitudes of students for a more positive point of view on many subjects. It has many more positive implications on students than it does negatives, your students will have a break from the typical classroom environment and get a break from just sitting in class and having to swallow a large intake of information which, can be difficult for some students. Learning becomes practical and more student oriented which can involve those students who learn in: kinaesthetic, auditory, and visual ways. The students who find sitting and having to read and make notes difficult have ample opportunity to excel in Physical Education, as they have a chance to learn in their preferred way and gain self-esteem and confidence to try more
My motivation for opting to study E112, is to further develop my skills and knowledge in sport and fitness. I also aim to progress into becoming a physical education teacher. Throughout this module I would like to be re-introduced into education in sport and fitness as it has been four years since I studied a level 3 sport science course, and I would like this module to help me prepare and study effectively. As stated above, my ambition is to become a physical education teacher in a high school, therefore I would like to peruse this degree, and then progress onto a post graduate degree to become a teacher. E112 links in with both my work in the fitness industry and my interests as it shows how sport and fitness organisations operate, whilst also showing the changes in sport over the years whilst giving different perspectives which is very interesting.
Exercise is typically the main goal of physical education. Sometimes, a physical education teacher may instruct his student to perform drills or exercises. Other times, students may play games and sports. Basketball and dodge ball, for example, are two popular PE games. Larger schools may also have an indoor swimming pool that students can use during their gym class.
My favourite quote of all time is: “Through Christ, all things are possible”, in which I can relate to because it reassures me that God is always there for me to fall back on, further corresponding to my education and passion for sport and exercise science. I enjoy studying the different aspects that sport and exercise science brings because it helps me to understand my body better, it's a great way to make new friends, maintain fitness levels and you could find a new hobby. My family life helped me to recognise my love for sports, with all of the activities that we have done, for example, bike rides every Saturday and playing different sports in the back-garden. As I moved into secondary school and joined the girls’ netball and football club, I was a-part of both teams which meant we were representing our school while competing. Not only was it the practical side of sports, but the theory side reinforced my passion for sports. I believe I have a really good understanding of the importance behind the science and exercise of sport-this I know will definitely help me with my future education. My fascination on understanding how the body works has fuelled my ambition on learning more about the human body at a higher educational level. This is why I chose to do my college work experience in a Secondary school, in which I had to do 30 hours or more, to complete one area of my course. During my time of experience, I observed the different sports teachers- how they taught their
