Front lights are something that is getting really bad in these days. Before front lights on a car were not so bad and it would actually help people in the street see the road and see you which kept the streets safe. The reason it is getting so bad is by the new lights that they are putting on cars now by making the light brighter and changing the color of the light. It is helping the driver on the street but not helping anybody on the road because the light is to strong and then blinding other people on the street by the power of the light. This makes me think that businesses will make their lights stronger to help the driver and make the driver think that it is a smarter and safer light to have on the person’s car so then they will make the
In the article entitled, “Dutch Town Aims Safety Measures at the Feet of ‘Smartphone Zombies’’’ Tom Everett explains how distracted walkers are becoming a problem. First, Everett discusses how many people are not being aware of their surroundings when they are on their smartphones. Everett thinks a unaware walker might even step into oncoming traffic. Then, officials in Bodegraven-Reeuwijk decide to fix this problem with some LED lights. The town put light lines in a handful of intersections around their town. These light lines are synced to the traffic light, so the light lines turn whatever color the traffic light is. So when walkers are looking down at their phone, they can see the traffic light. Although, not everyone agrees with this
Therefore while they are distracted and driving their focus must alternate between whatever other task is at hand and driving. This draws their attention away from the road, which can potentially lead to an accident. A crosswalk is generally designed to provide a safe path for pedestrians to cross by marking the designated path that people can cross and in which motorist should be able to see. “Should” is the keyword, because as the paint fades, chips, and wears from traffic; the path becomes harder for motorist to see. The consequence of this is a driver will be less aware that someone may step into the road trying to cross at these points. Laws and legislation are beginning to crack down on these drivers but the roads are still a dangerous place for a person to be.
Red light running is a serious issue in the United States. According to T. Walden and B. Bochner (2011), it is estimated these violations result in over 100,000 accidents and 1,000 fatalities each year. The economic impact is assessed to be over $14 billion dollars annually (“Effectiveness of Red Light Cameras-Texas Statewide Evaluation,” p. 30). Typical costs include items such as property damage, medical expenses, response expenditures, etc. The monetary costs are significant, but the loss of life is incalculable. N. Elminity and E. Radwan (2008) state that drivers who run red lights are the primary cause of high-speed angular collisions at intersections (“Issues Related to Red-Light Camera Enforcement Systems,” p. 32). RLCs are an attempt to increase safety and reduce risk at problematic intersections in order to mitigate these costs.
More and more people are dying from those crucial disgusting accidents. People should understand that those crucial habits should not be tolerated and it cannot be done. Hopefully, this has been persuasive enough so that you don’t need to kill innocent people and you do not need to live with a miserable life. Driving is fun, but killing people is not. Hence, people can grow with some more aware driving skills, and simplify the deaths per year. If people stay away from texting while driving, impaired driving and speed
Red-light-running camera enforcement is a relatively new technology. The cameras where implemented for use in the United States in the 1990s. The technology is available to help reduce a substantial problem that causes injuries and fatalities after a person enters a signalized intersection when displayed a red light in their traveled direction. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has defined the term "red-light-running" in Issue Brief 6 as "the act of entering, and proceeding through, a signalized intersection after the traffic signal has turned red." (Federal Highway Administration [FHWA], 2009 (6), p1) While the FHWA is a proponent of this technology, controversy has been driven by claims from opponents who cite privacy issues, maintenance concerns, and claims that the intervals for yellow/amber signals have been shortened for the sole purpose of generating funds for the states and municipalities that use the technology. Looking back at the history of the traffic signals, authorities that control them and some recent studies may allow for a better understanding of the cameras and their use today.
In the article, “Scarlet Letter for Drunk Drivers”, it discusses the idea of passing a law in which any driver caught driving under the influence of alcohol must put florescent yellow license plates on their car for one year after they regain their driving privileges. This law is similar to that of the scarlet letter because those who committed a crime have to “wear” or display their wrongdoings. The point of this punishment is to warn others on the road to be cautious near these drivers and to make drivers think twice before drinking and driving. This law should be passed because it is an effective way to warn others to be cautious around them and prevent others from driving under the influence to avoid shame and embarrassment.
So in 1986, Tucson and Pima County again took the initiative to jointly update their lighting codes, requiring low-pressure sodium (LPS) lights and to ban all mercury vapor lights. During the same time, the City of Flagstaff began a trial experiment: replacing the streetlights on Santa Fe Avenue with LPS lights. This allowed for the city and its residents to adjust to different lighting styles and evaluate the effectiveness of these lights. The response was extremely favorable: nine out of ten Flagstaff residents were ready to switch all streetlights to LPS by 1987 (Flagstaff’s).
Inspired by watching either one of either one of my parents drive from the passenger seat having trouble focusing of the road due to the brightness of the sun. Many accidents happen on the roads all over the United States because of the intense brightness of the sun blocking driver's vision while steering. Federal regulations against tinted windows make it hard to do much about the problem without facing a penalty. This invention will help drivers overcome the obstacle of driving almost blinded by the brightest star in our solar system and also help avoid tinting their windshields darker than it is legal to.
Glare assurance while driving in the day time it turns out to be exceptionally hard to see legitimately due to the sun glare. Individuals who don't utilize sun glasses get
Since moving to Gainesville in the early '80's I've seen a slow and steady increase in red light running. A red light runner was something I noticed only occasionally. Seeing an occasional red light runner increased to seeing one about once a month, then to once a week, increasing again to once a day. Now I see many red light runners every day. Running a red light increases the chance of being involved in a crash, furthermore, running a red light thrusts people and property needlessly and selfishly into harms way. Rules, laws, limits, signs, and lights, have all been established, enacted, and erected, not only to control the flow of traffic, but to make driving safer. The first speed limits of 12 MPH in the cities and 15 MPH on country roads for motorized vehicles was set in Connecticut in 1901 (History.com). The world's first electric traffic light was installed at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street in Cleveland Ohio in 1914 (History.com). And while walk/don't walk signs debuted in Washington D.C. in 1939 as revealed by research conducted by Richard Weingroff, it is unknown when or where the first was installed. Arguably all of these improvements helped to make driving safer. Of course all the laws, rules,
red-light safety cameras increased 135%.” (“Red-Light Running Dangers”) When the conversation of whether to have red light cameras, or not to have red light cameras arises, human fatalities should without a doubt be a top consideration. Especially when a study performed during 2011 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that red light cameras had lowered
Help drivers see your child by carrying a flashlight and using reflective tape and other reflective items. Many Halloween costumes are dark. By using reflective armbands, stickers, and tape, you can make your child more visible to drivers and to
This will help make teens less distracted on the road. Phones and technology is a big distraction and danger, once they are 18 drivers will be more responsible to stop. The human brain is fully matured at 20 years old, so starting to drive at 18 years old, they will be more mature and responsible which makes them safer. Also, studies have shown that it is impossible to truly “multitask”. This is important because that means teens are taking most of their attention of the road and putting their attention on the electronics. This is significant because now that teens have switched their attention to other distraction, this dangers other drivers around them. Stopping the unhealthy multitasking can make the road a more trustworthy place.
Drivers who are aware of the abusive cameras are constantly caught up trying to avoid getting an outrageous ticket; therefore, in attempt to avoid them, drivers are unexpectedly and furiously coming to abrupt stops. In result of the urgent and sudden stop of driver A (the first one to cross the intersection), braking quickly doesn’t give driver B neither enough time or physical room to move out of the way, consequently resulting in a rear-end collision, sometimes involving more than just two drivers. The driver’s panic to evade the ticket ends up caught up in the misfortunes of an even sadder circumstance. Leading reasons for this is thanks to the intentional decrease of yellow-light length times. Studies have shown that since the installment of the cameras there has been intentional scheming to cut the period of yellow light to catch as many victims as possible. It has been verified that increasing yellow-lights to at least one second more would decrease the number of accidents by over 45%. (Maass). An extra reason for which there is
Can you ever imagine a world without light bulb? Before light bulb was created, the night can only be lit by the moon and stars. People working and traveling after sunset could only use candles or oil lamps, which caused many inconveniences. Without any bright light, moving inside your own house even seemed dangerous. However, things changed after the ambitious inventors brought their bright idea, which was to light the world, to life. The invention and the commercialization of light bulb not only changed the way people live, but also became a technological breakthrough for future energy use in our daily lives.
