Gun control is a very divisive subject in our country today. It is so divisive because some people really think they should be able to own their personal guns. However some people disagree with this. Over the last couple of years gun violence has been increasing dramatically. The United States leads the world for most mass shootings from 1966 to 2012 with 90 shootings. Gun control is such a divisive issue in our country for many reasons. One reason is that “Democrats and city dwellers tend to favor tighter gun restrictions, however Republicans and people in rural areas tend to favor protecting gun rights.” Another reason is that people who possess firearms think that a good person with a gun is the only way to stop a bad person with a gun. Also people who own guns protest that owning a firearm is a “natural right that they deserve either for hunting, …show more content…
There are many ways for this goal to be accomplished. First things first the government needs to ban the selling of bump stocks. Another example is for the government to ban all guns from being sold from gun shows. This would make a huge difference because, “gun shows are like loopholes for criminals to buy guns because they do not have to go through background checks.” “In the recent shooting in Las Vegas Stephen Paddock had 20 guns, rifle scopes, high capacity magazines that can hold up to 100 bullets at a time and at least one bump stock which allows a semiautomatic gun to shoot faster.” This statistic from Times Magazine shows that the United States needs to rethink the laws on buying guns. Some of the guns that Paddock possessed were military grade. The government should make it illegal to own military grade weapons unless you are in the military. Last but not least it should be against the law to have concealable weapons unless you are a police officer or any first
For years, people of all social statuses have argued whether the right to bear arms should remain, be restricted or completely prohibited. The debate has escalated in the past few years, so far as to play a huge role in the recent presidential election, and has divided the country even more. Those who support the idea of controlling firearms believe that it will reduce the amount of crimes committed with a firearm, resulting in the death of at least one individual involved, as well as suicides. Those opposing the idea believe that gun control will reduce citizens’ protection against assailants along with taking away the right granted to all American citizens in the constitution. Whether the right to bear arms is restricted or not, there will
Gun control is an ongoing debate and will never stop because there will always be that one person to testify against it and get it going again. In this year of an election, many politicians have stated the need for gun control, but their reasoning is not logical. There may be a need for gun control, but the laws that are in place now have gone too far. Too many laws create too many restrictions, and maybe they are there to protect citizens, but they also encourage lawlessness. They also start riots and other things like that because people are pushing for so many gun control laws and guns are being banned.
The gun control issue has recently created a massive uproar throughout the U.S. due to some major horrific events such as the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007, where 32 people were killed, the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012 where 27 people were killed, mostly children, and the Columbine shooting in 1999 where 13 people were killed, (CNN) as well as many others. To some, it is a crime issue, to others it’s a right’s issue. It is, obviously, a safety issue, an education issue, a racial issue, and a political issue, among others, and within each of these issues there are those who want more gun control, the Democrats, and those who
Gun control is an arguable topic that is still continuing to affect people in the United States. Many people debate on whether gun control should be heavily effective in the society or if there should be no gun control at all. It is already writing in the second amendment of the constitution that anyone has a right to bear arms. On the contrary, people are using the firearms improperly and taking other people's lives. There are many consequences of having or owning a gun.
Gun control issue have become very debatable in the U.S. There was a study about how many people die in mass shooting. In fact, the article reports that the percentage of dying in a car crash is mover 100 times more than dying by a gun. Furthermore, there was a study performed about Europe and their gun laws. It was more likely that a region that had laws in place where people could not have guns. This statistics is fascinating because the research shows that if more than 3 people were killed happened with restricted gun
In the course of history gun control and mass shootings has always been an issue, but much too often, history has been being made. Gun control is an understatement for what actually is being implemented. The process to get a gun, for example, a rifle, is all too easy. Let me personally walk you through this gruesome process . First, you walk into the store, second you pick your desired weapon, third you walk to the cashier to do a background check, finally you buy the gun. The hardest part about that process was choosing the actual weapon you want. With little gun control comes more mass shootings, and with more control comes less mass shootings. Obtaining a gun is much too easy, and needs to become more strict, or even
Gun control is a very controversial topic to the United States. With increasing terrorist attacks and gunmen, people are taking sides in the conflict. On the top looking in, it seems that the country is split directly in two with increasing statistics supporting both sides. “In 2015, about 32,000 Americans died of gunshot wounds, about eighty-eight every day.” (Sharon, Johnson) which supports Gun Control Activists. “Statistics show that domestic violence has rose from 18,000 records to 95 records since to 2008 to 2015.” (Gretta Goodwin) which supports Gun Right Activists and their need for guns. However it can be clearly seen that gun control will be harmful.
With all the recent events involving guns, the topic is very prevalent in today’s society. Gun usage has evolved drastically over the years. Conceal and carry is now legal on certain college campuses, mass shootings are a common event, guns are the 12th leading cause of deaths, including many other horrific events that occur with the usage of guns. Many of the time guns get in the hand of the wrong people which leads to the harm of others. Gun control should be stricken due to the many tragic events that happen each day.
Gun control has become a hot topic in the United States as of now. There will be those who are for guns and those who are against guns. Those who are for guns, assert that it is our right to bear arms according to the 2nd amendment and those who are against guns, believe that guns are unnecessary and cause more violence. Assault weapons, in particular, have caused too many deaths and the government needs to put a ban on assault weapons.
Gun control has been being a controversial topic for many years that people try to discuss about it. This issue has become more serious because of many recent tragedies have been happened in the US, and the main reason of those tragedies is lack of control. For example, tragedies in Newtown or Colorado, which everybody has known, took away many lives of innocent children and adults. That is why American citizens think that guns are dangerous and should be banned. However, there are some problem of banning guns brings more negatives than maintaining the status quo.
The United States has become a country that no longer stands united. In todays society it is a prevalent issue that the country is divided on many major issues. The last election shows the strong division biased upon just political reasons. One of the major issues that is being discovered with this issue is what actions should be taken towards gun control. Some officials suggest that the country bans guns entirely and others believe that the issue should not even be looked at. Essentially the debate comes down to the issues between gun rights and gun control. Gun control is an extreme that should be used as a last resort. A complete and total ban on guns is not an option, due to the revolt that would ensue. The U.S. has become a gun culture
Gun control is currently a big issue in America. What is gun control? Gun control is the addition of new gun laws or improving existing ones. America is split between people who are gun control supporters and people are against gun control. People who are against gun control believe guns are very important to American and its history and believe that it would be destructive to take them away.
Gun control is one of the most controversial topics in our country. There are two main views. The first is the view as it is said in the United States Constitution, they guns should be legal for civilian ownership. The second view, and the severity of its enforcement varies from person to person, it that gun control should be enacted. This could just mean smaller magazines, to no semi-automatic guns, or even to a complete ban. The founding father’s view is basically what is still used today. Guns are allowed, but some states have much stricter regulations on them. Guns are necessary in a country, because of the constitution, and for the purposes of self defense and national security.
Gun control in America has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. With the mass shootings taking place more and more lately, it has become an even more important topic. Many americans believe we should have gun control, while many others think that it will not help anything. I believe that we should have stricter gun control laws and should enforce them better because our founding fathers could not have foreseen these advancements in firearm technology. They did not know how much the guns would change and how dangerous they could become, especially if everyone is allowed to have one.
Gun-control has been a controversy among Americans over the years and it has gotten to a point where it seems to divide Americans severely. It has been a controversy on whether or not the U.S. should establish tougher gun-control laws rather than preserve our current gun laws. The U.S. should establish a tougher gun-control laws in order to put a stop to gun violence.
