I am writing to you in hopes that I might persuade you to look more deeply into adding 10 points to my semester grade. I strongly believe that adding these 10 points will help me in the long run. The added points will help my grade overall so that I do not have to take the class again. I realize that giving me the extra points might not set well with you, but I believe it should come from the heart. Do you agree that the addition of points will help me? Do you disagree because I am sometimes rude? If I were ignorant all of the time, would you still add 10 points to my semester grade? I am afraid that without the extra points, I will have to take your class again. One of the complaints that I hear from teachers is that adding 10 points to
I Luc Rurup in your fifth period class has dropped to a C plus by just by a hair under a B minus. If I am in the C range when it comes to grades mother will punish me, but all I need a point three percent more on my final grade. By doing this I will just be in the B minus range and my mother will won’t have to punish me. If you give me a just point three percent more this letter you will have one less child whining and moaning about the grade. Also by giving the few points need to cross over the into the B range it . I’d like to thank you for the time you took out of checking papers for this letter.
Thanks professor Vetto, I'm very glad you like my post. To be honest these daily questions are really starting to open my eyes to many things I didn't know. The response that each student post are very unique an accurate in the way that we are learning from eachother. Big thanks to you for setting the class in this form, it is very helpful in comprenhensing the course
Alfie Kohn discussed multiple fabulous points in his article, “Degrading to De-Grading”. The author suggests more effective ways to assess students’ progress other than numerical or letter grades. Kohn goes into detail about why our current grading system is flawed. Grades can cause students to lose interest in learning which causes them to stop taking challenges. If students are not engaged and interested than they are not retaining the information they are being taught. The grading system can also cause students to develop unhealthy competition with one another for instance, “I got a better grade than you!”. Indeed, grades are a wonderful concept, but they tend to be more hurtful than helpful. In some cases, grades can have positive effects on students. For example, setting goals for various assignments, or receiving help where they are struggling. Though, there are alternatives that could make positive changes in the system.
The police have been baffled by the mystery of the Zodiac Killer for decades. Police and cryptologists spent countless hours trying to decode the Zodiac’s letters. They even opened it up to the public because they were desperate for answers. Most of the ciphers were decoded but some remain a mystery to this day. The police have linked some murders to him while others are unknown.
School is slave labor. Rather than enjoying or learning from their classes, students are forced to do useless work that will often be forgotten immediately. Grades are meant to show much a student understands a class, but instead are used as a scale of how well a student can regurgitate answers onto a test. Students only work for good grades because of the threat of being punished for failure, and the promise of reward for passing. The punishments in this case are detention or trouble from teachers, and the rewards are making the honor roll or getting bragging rights. The real reward for learning should be having new knowledge, but this is not taken into consideration. Jerry Farber, a professor at U.S.D, made the strong claim that grades are useless and harmful in his essay, “A Young Person’s Guide to the Grading System.” I wholeheartedly agree with Farber’s objection to our current grading system.
In this week June 11th through June 14th of 2018 at College of the Desert I have learned three specific topics in my english class with Professor Tapleshay. For a start, my first topic is learning good habits on engaging with my fellow classmates in the Edge program at COD including Professor Tapleshay. In fact, to also get rid of the closed doors that kept my voice locked up for four years at Rancho Mirage High School. My second topic is about the three rules of Professor Tapleshay’s class which are number 1. Show up, number 2. Show up on time and number 3. Do your work. To add on, these three fundamental rules impact my attitude by making me realize how the COD college level classes are going to be this fall which shows how I need to have
My sincere apologies for having to trouble you in this matter. However, I like to bring the following to your attention, I have been observing student Selma Kitson since the course commenced. This student has a habit of grading our posts in the Discussion Forum on the very last day, just a few hours prior to closing and tends to submit more than one post. Moreover, 1) his/her comment is totally irrelevant to the grade provided 2) he/she has a tendency of providing very low grade despite his/her own work submitted is of far lower quality.
Feedback should be restricted to two or three points, once more than two or three points are given it will not be interpreted by the learner. The learner will lose interest and switch off, rendering all future feedback to be of no use. How-ever if two or three points are given frequently it will be received, understood and applied by the learner.
I am registered in your English 2960-902 online course. I recently received an C in the discussion board assignment. I responded to
Teachers have always used grades to measure the amount a student has learned. This practice is becoming ineffective. Many students have a wide range of grades, which show that grades may not show what a student really knows. Therefore, the standard grading system should be replaced. Some reasons why grades should be replaced are bad grades can hinder a child’s performance, grades define who a student is in the classroom, and grades are not an effective way to see if students have learned the material. The current grading system should be upgraded and every school should incorporate the plus/minus system in their method of grading.
I am writing to you in hopes that you will add an extra ten points to my semester grade. I strongly believe that I deserve these extra points, for putting my hard work and effort into this first semester. With all the different assignments and short amount of time you have given my classmates and I, most of us tend to or try to turn it in on time maybe a little later depending on the assign work.
A good mystery story needs a hero, a villan and an out of the ordinary storyline. In my opinion the story should have a realistic drama and the right setting, something to drastic will not allow the reader to relate to the story. A narrator may make the story more personal and the reader can really get inside the story to know what the character is feeling and fears, increasing tension. There also should be a range of suspects; some of these characters can be used as red herrings, which can mislead the reader, adding to the shock at the end of the story. In ‘The speckled band’ the suspects are the gypsies, the exotic animals and Dr Roylott, there are some obvious and some not,
Physical evidence is important and pertinent to complete a criminal investigation because too often witness accounts are sometimes inaccurate and so investigators rely isolated on physical evidence. Without a doubt, physical evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, and trace evidence may single-handed lead crime scene investigators to a suspect or suspects to a particular victim or crime. In favor, DNA can dismiss or exonerate a suspect of a crime or past prosecuted crimes.
As a student, I bring my natural curiosity and strong work ethic that has assisted me in my academic and professional life. I enjoy the active process of learning and look forward to beginning classes in this concentration. While earning my other degrees, I have been an active member of each class, seeking to understand the what, and how of topics studied. I am confident in my ability to complete the coursework required to earn the
