The Bible is composed of two parts, which are the New Testament and the Old Testament. The two Testaments consist of a collection of stories, letters, poetry, prayers, historical events and other literature. These were written by different people, some of whom are characters in these stories. The purpose of the readings in the bible is to continue teaching people about God and his only son Jesus Christ. The Bible is considered a guide to follow the right path to the Kingdom of God or eternal life; which is achieved by abstaining from sin. Through these readings, they deliver implied messages of what was considered a sin. Since it is explained in a form of stories, it is common for readers to interpret the readings differently. Due to these interpretations, controversy may be endured. …show more content…
It describes sin as breaking your relationship with God or turning your back to Him. An example would be Deuteronomy 31:18, “these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. On that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them and they will be destroyed.” When God spoke to Moses, he informed him that he was going to die and when he entered the new world, the people would turn to other gods and that would be their punishment. The readings portrayed the gravity of turning to other gods and sort of punishment one would
One of the most important things for every Christian to have the Bible. The Bible is the book that passes along the teachings of Jesus and other religious stories that have a strong background in Christian history. The New Testament covers the life of Jesus. It has his teachings that
Unlike Mythology, narratives of the Bible are actual events that took place dating back to the beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible’s compilation started thousands of years ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, the Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of the New Testament writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of God, which resulted in sixty-six books of the Holy Bible. The Old Testament is the largest part of the bible nestled behind the leather binding in the front of the book. Unlike most books, told from one-person or even two this is comprised of multiple, some stories even having two different versions in another point of view; over time it has become a large collection of ancient texts written and re-written by different authors and editors over the many years. The stories show the ancient Israelites, they show the laws, and rituals, which make up their religion and the small embers, which will one day, turn to a flame that is Christianity. The Jewish people view these stories as collected in what they call the Torah, is the collection for what makes up their history and the promise that God gave to them, as well as their laws and what they worship today. For the Christians the Old Testament is still seen as sacred, but most place a stronger importance to the New Testament.
Sin is the foundation of good and evil in today’s society. Without out this factor there would be no judging in society but peacefulness everywhere. We live in a society where sin is the tool that runs our culture. When many of us consider "What is sin?" we think of violations of the Ten Commandments. Some other people consider murder, adultery, theft, etc as sins too. In the Tokens of Trust by Rowan Williams he illustrates the language of the “orginal sin” “ is a tangle that goes back to our very roots of humanity”. According to the Marriam-Webster dictionary sin is defined as an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.

The bible is an old book written a long time ago for an ancient audience. God is the divine author of the bible and he intended for us to be able to read and understand it, even in these current times. However, those ancient years in the time of the roman empire was were Christianity, as we know it, began its first steps. For this to happen, the authors who were inspired, had to make sure that their audience could understand and relate with their words. While we have learned to translate the language of the bible over the years the words and meanings are still the same. Which is why it is important to understand the context in which the Bible was written.

The bible is a unique book that describes God, His will, power, and qualities. It divided into two main parts which we call the Old and New Testaments. Even though they both reveal true knowledge about God and have much in common, there are plentiful differences between them like who are God’s people, the laws, and the sacrifices.
When studying any piece of literature there are many different methods and techniques that can be used. The Bible, in specific, is often referred to as a source of moral code, hope, and answers to social, ethical, and political questions. However, this incredibly influential book can also be read as if it were any other novel. The events, settings, and characters can all be evaluated for what they are, forgetting the notion that they are from a religious text. This approach is called narrative criticism. When regarding to the Bible in this way, we do not need to know any historical information or focus on seeking a deeper theological meaning. Instead, the stories are evaluated in terms of how
The Bible contains sixty-six books, written by approximately forty authors, over the course of two thousand years. God created and loves humans despite their rebellious attitude towards Him, and God wants to reunite humans to Himself (Poythress, 2008). The Bible is a record of the sinful rebellion of humans and it still declares God’s love for humanity through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. This foundation prepares the way for Jesus Christ to fulfill God’s entire promised covenants.
The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand.
