Why Should I Start Exercising?

Are you new to exercising? Have you tried to exercise to lose weight or to get fit and then you stopped because of the barriers that you put up that sabotaged your well-intentioned efforts? I was once a newbie too, and I had a long list of excuses that I would go through, one by one, until I was convinced that the benefits of doing A, B,

You may have children with busy schedules too (soccer practice, music lessons, homework that needs your input), or you might do a lot of volunteer work, or it might be that you don 't know how to start a type of activity that can give you a good enough workout in the little time that you have. You may also live in a building or area that doesn 't have a gym or area to work out in. You might have some "achiness" in your joints or back that you are afraid might get worse if you start to exercise again. Most likely, you might have a combination of the above.
Believe me, I know all of these barriers too well and I have used every one of them to hijack my own efforts in getting fit. However, there is no better time to start exercising to get fit than RIGHT NOW! The barriers might seem too numerous to count and often seem insurmountable, but the short-term and the long-term benefits are absolutely HUGE! Let me explain how exercise can change your life for the better.
The Benefits! (with a capital B and an exclamation mark!)
1. Body
With exercise, your body will thank you with a big "Ahhhhhhhh! I needed that!" You will look and feel younger with regular exercise, and this is largely due to all of the positive changes that regular activity will do for your body. You will have improved your heart function, and lowered your blood pressure and "bad"
If you hate running then don’t run. If you hate lifting weights then don’t life weights. If you take on an exercise program that is full of exercises that you hate then you will most likely give up fairly quick. There are so many different exercise options available so choose something that you enjoy.
One particular barrier that has been found to have an indirect effect on physical activity is self-efficacy and self-motivation. Self-efficacy allows humans to overcome barriers such as feeling tired to exercise; because of social norms, it is harder for females to have high self-efficacy and in turn, harder to overcome barriers to motivation (Louw, Van Biljon, & Mugandani, 2012).
It's that simple. STOP MAKING EXCUSES. Realize that working out is not a hassle. By deciding to stop making excuses you will notice how fun exercising can be and in no time you will be living a healthier lifestyle by habit. Develop the right mindset, fall in love with the process, and positive results will come your way.
One of the biggest motivators to exercise is to have a friend to do it with. It is much harder to skip going to the gym when you've already promised a friend that you'd meet them there. Also, to keep doing exercise consistently, it is so important to find something that you enjoy doing. And that is not impossible! Swimming is such good exercise, and it's fun! Go swimming with a friend a couple of times a week, and you won't even feel like you're exercising. Or, if you are very motivated, join a class that coaches running, and train for a 5K marathon! If one of your resolutions this year is to get healthy or lose weight, then you probably must have considered joining a Gym to help you out with this. Starting a new healthy routine, a much less one where you regularly go to the Gym can be difficult. Starting an exercise program all of a sudden is not a simple task. A visit to your local gym can seem very intimidating. You look around and dazzled by the array of machines available there.
Self-care is important for every person. Taking the time to do activities and engaging in behaviors that make one happy is vital to health. One of those activities could be exercising, which has many health benefits that contribute to a person’s overall health. There are obvious benefits that many people consider when thinking about exercise, such as weight management, strengthening bones and muscles, as well as reducing the risk of developing cardiovascular disease; however, there are other advantages that are not as obvious which can positively impact overall health. Some of these advantages include decreasing depression, preventing metabolic disorders and some cancers, improving memory, and decreasing stress. It can sometimes be a struggle for people to exercise on a daily basis due to time constraints, prior engagements, or work, but by dedicating some time every week to getting in some form of exercise, the benefits of exercise can be achieved. Self-care by means of exercising is valuable because of the advantages that come from engaging in it, which reveals that it should be integrated in the nursing practice by teaching patients about these benefits.
In my plan I have to at least commit myself to go to the gym four to five days a week as I used to do at the beginning of the semester. However, as for this week the only exercises I have done have been the ones from the class activity such as hiking and Pilates. Other than that, I have failed to
Losing weight, looking/feeling better, feeling healthier sounds great for wanting to exercise, but that is not my purpose. I want to better my health by following an exercise program, to look in the mirror be happy with what I see, nevertheless pull off the clothes my parents say I spend too much money on. I love feeling luminous and positive way more than feeling insecure and feeling tired after walking up/down a flight of stairs. The past weeks I have gone to the gym to workout with my parents, accompanied my Mother’s zumba sessions, and stretched at home with my Mother.
Currently, many Americans do not get enough exercise. As the results, their physical health is not the only one being affect by their inaction. In the United States, around 49.2% of adults meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for aerobic physical activity, but only 20.8% meets both aerobic physical and muscle-strengthening activity according to the Center for Disease Control (“Exercise”). This means that the majority of Americans are not physically fit. Then there is obesity; in the article Obesity on Campus, “administrators and faculty members have been discussing obesity as they see greater numbers of overweight students” (Sparling). Additionally, 2 in 3 adults are considered to be overweight or obese in the United States (“Overweight”).
When people consider whether to exercise or not they usually land on which choice is more convenient. I find that the easiest way to motivate myself to go to the gym, is to go to a place with air conditioning and focus on cardio. This is to say, sometimes a great starting point is doing nothing necessarily strenuous but simply moving and making the heart and lungs work a bit harder than usual. I also find that despite understanding the benefits of exercise, I rarely find myself self-motivated to go to a gym or other exercise related location. I, myself am aware that the excuse that it takes too much time, or too much effort, to exercise is a realistic concern, but it has an equally grounded solution which is to simply move whenever one can. The terms exercise and gym can have very negative connotations which bring to mind muscle bound body builders and those training for marathons.
Attempting to address difficulties that individuals experience to maintain a regular exercise regimen, and issues that may diminish a person’s motivation to stay fit. The intent of this research aim is to examine several reasons why certain people may discontinue exercising intervention or will not totally commit to a workout program. In other words, surveying several factors that may have an effect on long-term behavior and dropout concerns regarding exercising.
Some common reasons for people to stop an exercise plan is that they feel like they are getting better so they can stop and not have to worry about doing the exercise anymore, they have other health issues that prevent them from exercising, if they have lack of motivation or energy, or if they lack social support. One of the most common reasons given for not exercising is that exercise is an inconvenience to them, they would much rather spend their time doing other things, or they simply “don’t have time for it.” Looking at a person’s personality and their mindset can really help someone understand why people think this way, and help people come up with ways to change people’s thinking so they will start exercising, and hopefully stick with it long term.
Many of us have the best of intentions. We buy workout clothes and sneakers, join the local gym, and even get ourselves up early to take a spinning class or two. But then, after a few weeks, we once again lose our motivation, break our resolutions, and fall back into our old habits.
Physical activity is movement that is voluntary, intentional, and directed toward achieving an identifiable goal. Due to the fact I am completely uncoordinated and clumsy, I was grateful when I finished my last physical education class in high school. I was relieved that I would never be required to work out ever again, but after seeing my sister become a spin instructor and my mother starting to become fit, I wanted to better myself as well. Though I had the urge to also become fit, I was still too lazy to actually start working out. I did not start to work out until January of this year.
