“The Pandorica Opens” is an episode where the Doctor finds out about a painting of his spaceship that blows up. The painting contains coordinates of a time and place. The coordinates lead to the Stonehenge in 2 A.D. The romans play a part as the Doctor’s protectors against the aliens who want the Pandorica for themselves. The Pandorica sounds similar to Pandora’s Box, which the character Amy Pond references. She turns out to be correct as the Pandorica is Pandora’s Box, but in modern time. It was a myth made real. One of the multiple messages in this episode is that united you can accomplish anything. This was portrayed as all the alien visitors that claimed to have come for the box, were tricking the Doctor into opening the box which allegedly
This passage is from Hesiod’s Works and Days. It describes the birth of Pandora and exactly how she was created. Works and days is a didactic poem by Hesiod that embodies the experiences of his daily life and work, forming a sort of shepherd's calendar, interwoven with episodes of fable, allegory, advice and personal history. This passage begins with Zeus ordering the lame God Hephaestus to create Pandora from clay.
The artifact functions as a music box and was a prominent instrument during the Sumerian age and was most commonly used during funerals. In addition, since the piece of work was found in a royal tomb, one can further assume that it played a role in ancient funeral rites or banquets13. The Epic of Gilgamesh, explained earlier, could have also played a role in the development of this piece since it was a large part of literature in the Sumerian age. Even though the poem was written down hundreds of years after this plaque was created, it could be evidence for the first documentation of a long oral tradition13. Although there is no known patron of the work, it was most likely intended to be played and seen by an audience and give respect to the dead. In contrast, the Lapith Fighting a Centaur was apart of the Parthenon and had been widely known for centuries; it wasn’t a recent discovery. The relief, along with the 96 others on the building, depicts a legendary war between two factions. Even though these were mythic tales, they played a large role in Ancient Greek lives. The reliefs were created to most-likely educate the people of Greece about their gods and to recreate their religious
Through further research, I have learned that this vase “depicts the heroes Achilles and Ajax playing a board game” (Two-Handled Jar with Achilles and Ajax).

Adapted from “The Lovely Satones”, I something Christopher Hitchens used to persuade people into thinking of the Parthenon. Christopher Hitches supports the idea of preserving the Parthenon by using path is to bribe the reader Ina manner in which the reader itself is oblivious to the reader itself. Firstly he used pathos in a manner so that the reader pities the city of Athens, “ Most horrible of all, perhaps, the Acropolis was made to fly a Nazi flag during the occupation of Athens.” In this sentence he tries to manipulate the reader using pathos by emphasizing how the Nazis put a flag on their building. By doing this, he makes the reader forget about how there could have been a million things worse than just putting a flag on
It was night when everybody is sleeping like little babies. Everything seems to be normal until a villain comes running in the middle of nowhere. An immense storm in front of donald trump house. “El cabezotas” the most feared villain in the world. He wants to steal all the money from donald trump. The traditional view of the Parthenon Frieze, based off the work of James Stuart and Nicholas Revett, is that it depicts the panathenaic procession which occurred every four years and was part of the Panathenaea festival to commemorate the birth of Athena. This view is based off of the seeming procession and sacrificial animals included in it as well as the Greek gods either side of the giving of the Peplos where a statue of Athena would be draped with a shroud. (5) However we believed the Frieze depicted a different story as there were several inconsistencies with the depiction of the giving of the Peplos. For
The lack of consensus over the meaning of the contents of the Parthenon is due in part to the height of the frieze. Travelers in the 2nd century A.D., centuries before Cyriac, had noted the pediments; however there was no discussion of the frieze. This may have been due to the fact that the frieze was too high. Conversely, and as will be explored below, some of the legends therein
The piece is a red-figured, wine bowl that is attributed to the Niobid Painter. It was made in Athens, Greece around 460-450 BC, and found in Altamura. Puglia, Italy (British Museum). There are two scenes on top of one another that occur in the piece. The top scene is the creation of Pandora. She is standing rigid while five of the gods are standing around her. Athena is about to put a wreath on her head. The scene below displays a frieze of dancing and playing satyrs. Because the vase is round it isn’t possible to see all the figures in the piece. But looking at the piece from the front, six gods are portrayed in the top scene. The gods in the scene from left to right are: Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Pandora, Ares, and Hermes. The gods in the piece are identifiable because of distinguishable traits that certain characters
According to Sullivan they “found a heavy flat olive-tinged stone – about two feet long, fifteen inches wide and ten inches thick- set in its center. It was inscribed with strange markings” (4).

One very noteworthy statue of the Classical Period was called “Aphrodite of Knidos”. The original sculpture inspired various amounts of copies, but sadly the original itself did not survive. “Aphrodite of Knidos” was created by Praxitele and is thought to be the most famous sculptures of Classical Greece. The sculpture depicts Aphrodite just have taken off her clothes and was about to step into the bath. She may have had an onlooker and she covered her pelvis from their view.
No place has generated so much speculation and wild theories as the standing stones of Stonehenge. After traveling for miles through the rolling hills and plains of the English countryside the sight of this unusual structure made me gasp. A walk around it only provoked more strange feelings. There's a sense that this is something very important. For over 5000 years it has stood silent vigil over the
Under this approach, as an example, United averages on any given day about 27,000 members in an inpatient setting and another 14,000 members receiving services in a skilled nursing facility. These members are managed by 2,000 clinical employees working with attending physicians to achieve optimal quality outcomes and having proper discharge plans in place when members leave the facilities in order to prevent unnecessary readmissions. United also expects to make one million house calls and home visits for its Medicare members aimed at enhancing adherence in care plans and closing care gaps.
The original meaning of E pluribus unum or “One out of many” is that out of many different states or colonies emerges a single nation, which is what the United States was founded upon. Due to the unfairness imposed by the British government the 13 colonies banded together as one to fight against what they believed was unjust. In Naipaul’s “One Out of Many” Santosh starts as a simple cook for a man he calls Sahib or master, when his master is repositioned to America Santosh is offered to be brought along. From the moments he boards the plane to Washington he is met with certain hostilities and harsh looks from crew members and fellow passengers based on his appearance “But now on the plane I felt heads turning whenever I stood up.” (Pg.1008).
