William Larsen Mrs.Bauch Speech 13 May 2016 How many of you like to use your cell phones in class. Today I am going to tell you why you shouldn?t use them in class. From research I have learned that not using cell phones in class, is really beneficial. Cell phones are distracting, so if you don?t use them, you are more focused on learning. When we use cell phones in class we become distracted by other things, and are not trying to focus on learning. One way to solve this problem, such as a cell phone ban. If we put a cell phone ban into place, we would be more focused on what we are learning, and less on where one of our friends is eating at, or what they are doing at that moment. Cell phones being used in classrooms, is a problem because when teenagers use their phones they are try to multitask or trying to switch back and forth. The problems with these are that when a teenager uses his/her phones they can?t think deeply into what they are learning and they could possibly lose where they were at while on their phones, which results in a poor grades (Schoenberg). We all should care, because smartphones slow down our learning. Some students just don?t care about their grades, because they constantly think they are missing out on something (Airhart). …show more content…
Things will get better, because students won?t have their cell phones to distract them from doing their work. This will keep students from losing an hour of productivity a week (LaCasse). Since cell phone bans have been put into place, test scores have improved dramatically (LaCasse). This plan is better than what we have now because we can get the lower quartile of a class, to move up and be able to learn as well as the rest of their class (Airhart). Test scores in schools have improved by an average of 6.4 % because of the use of cell phone bans. So now that we have looked at how thing could improve, let?s look at how it will affect our
Nowadays most of students have cell phones as a way to communicate with others.but sometimes they can get distracted by these devices in class. Schools should require cell phones to be turned off and putting away during class, so students would focus more on assignments and information provided by the instructor.
Although phones may be used to help students with work, North Eugene high school should ban phones because how much of a distraction they can be in a classroom. Schools that have banned phone at school, 82% of students have a phone on at school.(Document #3) If North Eugene at least has a policy with not having students bring the phones in class, that will help with test scores and participation in class. “Students with laptops had a lower test result than those without. The reason? They were not paying attention to their teachers. We should expect the same thing from cell phones.” (Document #6) When using technology at school it may help but there also needs to be an extent to where it needs to stop. Phone are not going to help with our
First, cell phones cause students to do badly on their work. If they are focused on their phone instead of what they're learning, they will not know what to do. This leads to lousy grades on homework, daily work, and tests. Having lousy grades lead to failing classes. Failing classes does not look good to colleges. This ripple effect could cause some students to not get into the college of their choice and it all
Phone technology has been upgrading and updating for years now, and that’s obvious, and that means that this generation is filled with it. While it’s upgrading it’s also becoming more in demand than before. The world is starting taking it to another level, so there are also the downsides of these phones, the downsides that make this technology distracting, making people to beleive they shouldn’t be alowed in class. While it is true, phones can be a distraction sometimes, if the students are monitered the right way and know exactly what they are doing, phones just might be able to work out. With proper use, phones should be alowed in school.
About 90% of teens have used some form of social media and 75% have a profile on a social networking site, experts say. More than half of all American teens visit social networking sites every day. These numbers are way up from just a few years ago, and there's almost no chance of them ever coming down again. Although cell phones and devices continue to gain popularity, cell phones should not be allowed in school because they are a distraction, they decrease skill retention, and students abuse the privilege with social media.
Most schools do not allow the use of cell phones in school or in class, so the school feels like changing their policy of cell phone use might be a bad idea. Students could take advantage or miss use the privilege of phones in class. There will always be students who act out in class, but the school must discipline those who do and reward those who do not.
Some can argue that cell phone use during school is highly uncivilized but it's extremely useful in many different ways and in different scenarios.Instead of viewing cellphones and other gadgets as negative additive distractions , we should view the positive side of celluar devices. Cell phones can help resolve issues and help make the school environment much easier, however do believe there should be restrictions , for instance not to use a phone while the teacher is having a discussion or teaching lesson. If a student can obey these rules and not use it in a disrespectful manner , then there should not be any issues. Cellular phones should be allowed in schools for threatening emergencies, to avoid double standards between teachers and students and most of all to help students with research purposes.
Cell phones are distracting in school and disrupt learning. Students should always be giving their teacher their undivided attention. Cell phones in school create problems and they affect students’ grades. Although some may claim these reasons to be true, they are undeniably wrong. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school argue, “We know for a fact that the use of cell phones on school property around the country has led to a number of problems around safety.” This is wrong because cell phone use on school grounds is only beneficial to individuals on and off school property. Cell phones do not necessarily prevent problems, but they do help in times of emergencies. They promote safety in situations such as school shootings or hostage situations. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school also argue “Student’s whose minds wander during a lecture or discussion may find the temptation of texting instead of listening hard to resist.” While this is true, it is up to the student to pay attention. However, texting instead of listening is the same as doodling and not listening, or playing on a school issued laptop even after being told to put it away. It is up to the student to restrain from texting in class. The more schools put an emphasis on no phones in school the more
Failure to pay attention. Lack of honesty. Poor grades. These are some outcomes of allowing cellphones in class. Eight ball or word cookies may end up causing you to fail or miss an assignment. Students should not be allowed to have and use their cellphones because of inequality, distractions, and dishonesty.
Scaccia states, “One reason students fail is because of distractions in the classroom, specifically the cell phone.” The author is implying that students are using cell phones in class and its taking away from their learning. From my experiences in high school, teachers would stop in the middle of a statement to ask students repeatedly to put their phones away. As a result, teachers would lose track of what they were explaining. A student and teacher moving at the same pace through a lesson is the best way for a student to take proper notes, ask questions, and understand the information giving. Having to stop over and over throws the class flow off balance. Teachers can become frustrated because classes run on a schedule and they may lose out on time. I wasn’t someone that used my cell phone in class, so it was very frustrating and hard to stay focused when my train of thought was interrupted by those on their phone. When the teacher would suddenly stop to address the student using the cellphone, the entire class is now focused on that student. This would happen several times in a 45 minute class period. When it came time to complete my homework, my notes were incomplete and I couldn’t recall key points. I agree that cell phones are huge distraction, but I don’t think banning them all together is the right thing to do.
Cell phones are among us teen now and have been doing great damage in class. There's a great number of things that can happen wrong with phones in class . The research is overwhelming against cellphones being used in classes and educational purposes . 5 reasons why phones shouldn't be allowed in classes are harassment and inappropriate pictures, inability to follow rules, and drug deals happening on school grounds via cellphones .
Regina Jones's “Cell phones in the classroom” is an informational article that explains both sides of the issue of cell phones in the classroom. The idea of cell phones in the classroom has been debated for a long time. Jones discusses that the idea of cell phones in the classroom seems like a beneficial idea, but it has many consequences. Jones does not side with a specific opinion, but rather shows how to properly incorporate the idea given its cons. With the correct procedure, cell phones could be a valuable teaching aid to help kids learn in a contemporary way.
Today, we would like to discuss why cell phone use should be allowed while in school and how allowing cell phones during school hours can
Imagine you walk by a classroom and you see all the students learning productively using cell phones. It’s not surprising many people think cell phones should be banned in school. Kids could use it to cheat on tests, email their friends, play games or watch videos in the middle of a lesson! Many researchers see cell phones as a teaching tool for students. If students can learn how to use cell phones and how they work, then they can reveal the intended use of cell phones. I think cell phones should be allowed in school because kids will become familiar with technology. It's easier to work on long term projects. It's also a valuable teaching and learning tool.
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
