A Moment in Time A memorable moment for me that I can still remember very well is when I caught my first wild steelhead. What is a steelhead you might wonder, a steelhead is what a rainbow trout is called that has gone out to the ocean and now swims up stream and spawns like a salmon. A wild steelhead is one that has not been raised in a hatchery it has naturally spawned on that river before there was ever a hatchery. Anyway this is no easy task to complete, and not many people have done this specially on the river that I grew up fishing. There isn’t many salmon or steelhead left on that river let alone a wild steelhead, and salmon. Sitting on a river in the cold all day ice is freezing the sides of the river, there is snow everywhere and …show more content…
The best pole for the job light sensitive and sturdy. The wait wasn’t even a couple hours, but there was no mistake when the fish hit it, and the whole pole was whipping back and forth. There was no question that the fish that was on the end of that line was no small deal. There was only one way to know and that was to pick the pole up. Should you though? The fish might not be hooked well enough and it is just tasting the bait, or it is but waiting too long will let it get free. I had the patients of a kid on Christmas and garbed the pole and gave it a huge tug. The fish responded instantly and the fight was …show more content…
It is still a concern that the pole breaks and it gets away, the line gets caught in a snag, the fish breaks it or anything else that could happen. There is no doubt though that it is mine right now my heart is going a hundred miles an hour. This fish is by far the largest that I’ve ever caught, it is all that I can do to hold on too it. The pole is clenched between my hands there is no way that it will be let go I don’t even try to reel just hold on. It feels like the fight has gone on for an hour my arms are getting tired and the fish shoots straight up out of the water. It thrashes violently trying to shake the hook this fish is fighting with all its got and so am I. I am amazed by the power that this fish exerts, for me it seems like this fight isn’t going to stop. Then there is the turning point when one of the opponents starts to win and that is me. The fish is tiring my line keeps coming in now when I real instead of going out. The excitement of getting it to the beach is almost unbearable. Its back breaks the surface it is close the shore now I can see it. My dad grabs the net and runs out to get it. I drag it up a little closer and then my dad scoops it up. The fish is caught my excitement insurmountable at the
My dad examines the pole and realizes that the pole has snapped about 8 inches above the reel. I think to myself that the trip must be over now. No fishing pole, no fish simple as that. “I know what we’ll do” my Dad says as he walks over to his green bag. He opens up a side pocket and picks out a shiny new hook.
While other fishermen reel in boatloads of fish, the old man is lucky to feel so much as a tug on his line. He spends some time fishing with a young boy, but after months of bad luck, the boy’s parents no longer allow him to fish with the old man. It is for this reason that he decides to journey far out into the sea, aiming to catch a fish so huge it renders the other fishermen speechless. After venturing miles away from the course, the old man finally feels the pull of a large fish on his line; so large, in fact, that he does not have the strength to reel it in. However, he is determined to capture it no matter how long it takes, telling himself, “You better be fearless and confident yourself, old man” (Hemingway 84). He does his best to remain strong and optimistic throughout his time at sea. With much patience, he allows the marlin to guide his boat through the rippling waves of the ocean for days on end. When it finally tires out, he is able to kill it and reel it in, leaving an accumulation of blood in its place. Knowing this could mean trouble, he begins to head back to shore as quickly as possible, blood trailing behind him. To his dismay, despite his efforts to avoid them, the sharks sense the blood in the water and approach his boat. Each time a shark appears, he is eventually able to fight it off, but not before it can take a portion
There are several important factors to consider while fishing this method. Anytime you allow drag on your reel, the lure will lift off the rivers bottom. To compansate, try setting your float 3 to 6 inches deeper than the water yo’ur fishing. The second factor to consider is what size of blade to use. When allowing drag on your reel your blade will speed up, the greater the drag the faster the blade will turn, so you may have to increase the size
He started out in a shallower spot with a bunch of lily pads. First he threw a topwater frog. He caught three or four largemouth bass but only one was worth keeping. John decided that he might have better luck in the deeper water so he tied on a crankbait. He went out a little deeper and found a good spot. He fished there for about an hour but only caught two. Neither one was a keeper. He made up his mind to stay a little long and ended up catching a decent six pounder. But after about twenty minutes he changed spots again. He found a nice looking spot that had some grass. From years of experience John knew that bass like staying close to grass because there is usually food in the grass. So he tied on a jig that had a crawfish trailer on it. He casted a few times and caught one but wasn't having much luck.
At 17, a muzzelloader elk hunt in Navada was one of the best things to have ever happened to me in my life. A tag for the Jarbidge WIlderness Area is one of the best spots for it too. It all started out on the 500 mile drive out to destination, followed by 2 solid days of scouting the ranges for elk. Archery season was just ending when we were starting so the elk had some pressure but not as much as in rifle season. There were plenty of bulls that were well worth of shooting so we felt like we had a good chance of getting one. On opening day, a Thursday, we got on 3 nice 5x5 and 6x6 bulls with my dad and my uncle spotting from a ridge away but we either had no shot or we spooked cows before we could shoot. That day I put of about 15 miles and 2,000 feet of climbing. That night we re-fueled and slept had for the long
The line goes tight ,then a strike ,then the pole bending down into the water, the line running of the reel. That is when you know it's a big fish and the adrenaline starts to pump then you see the great Largemouth bass leap from the water as it try to get the hook out of its mouth as if its life depended on it .But after a long tiring fight it's over and the giant green largemouth bass is in the boat .It's a giant 5lber .Now that would be a fish to bad on average I only catch 3 lbs however no matter the size fishing is something that everyone can enjoy in her own way. There's a way to fish that everyone can like rather you are on that just likes to cast a line and wait for a fish to come or you are someone that likes to active
Ever since my passion began in the 7th grade, the amazing people I have come across, stories I have heard, and memories I have made fishing are innumerable. A few of the many guys I have met fishing have become valuable mentors to me, which of whom I have bonded with and become closer to. I have shared lots of experiences by spending time and traveling with these men, shaping me as a person. As humans, we learn so much from one another, and through fishing I have learned not only many old traditions and modern fishing methods, but life skills that I use in my day-to-day
The fish was bending the rod so it must be big and fat. It is also probably the biggest fish he ever caught. The story states the fish is the biggest he had ever seen. The fish is probably hooked well and won’t come off. He dragged it through a bunch of rocks and weeds so it would probably be easy to catch. The fish fights hard so it would be fun to catch. The fish is putting up a good fight with the pole and it would be fun for the narrator to catch. Another reason he might choose the fish is there are other girls. A few girls live around him other that Sheila. There are other girls around him that he could go out with other than Sheila. Sheila doesn’t like one of his biggest passions. Sheila doesn’t like fishing and he loves fishing so there might be another incident like this. There will be more available girls in the future. In the future there might be more girls that for sure like him back. In summary, the narrator can choose either the fish or Sheila
Once a bass is hooked, it may make a hard run to the opposing end of the boat, causing the fisherman to run to the other end; often passing his partner heading the other way with the net. The two fishermen fly through the air like dancers on a stage to reach positions in hope to land a fish.
As the sun starts to go down an angler stands waist deep in the murky green waters of the Mississippi River. He anxiously awaits for the right moment to grasp onto his next big catch. All of the sudden, he reaches into the water and he feels his whole arm being swallowed by a massive fish eating machine. The angler struggles as the fish fights back and wants to let go but not on his watch. He lifts his arm up in the air and there it is, a massive 60 pound beast clamping down on his arm. This hand fishing method is better known as noodling. It is a common fishing practice used to catch flathead catfish in southern states such as Alabama and Mississippi. The fish eating machine of the North American freshwaters is known for devouring all fish it encounters to the point of
The excitement begins to rise as the first cast draws nearer. The motor is prepared for take-off and the key is placed in the ignition. The engine turns over and the huge motor roars. The sleek boat accelerates rapidly and speeds toward the first fishing spot of the day. In a matter of minutes, the powerful boat glides into the fishing spot. The anticipation of catching a fish becomes almost unbearable. The fishing poles are grabbed quickly out of the rod lockers, and lures are tied onto the end of the fishing line. Moments later, the sound of a lure splashing into the water can be heard from the boat. The real adventure has just begun.
When you go fishing you need to fix up your pole. It does matter what kind of pole you use. If you are going fishing for something large like asian carp you'll need a pole that has about a 60lb weight limit rather than a crappie pole that has a 14-20lb weight limit. The reason im telling you this is because once you get out on the water with the wrong pole and hook a 40lb carp it'll snap your fishing pole clean
He tries to reel it in but he can't. Instead the fish is pulling the boat! He struggles and struggles with the fish for hours. After a while fatigue takes it's toll as his hands clamp up, and his back aches from the line tied around it. The fish surfaces and Santiago realizes that it is longer than the boat he is on! An unexpected jerk leaves a gash in his hand only to add to his pain. After a very long while Santiago shortens the line to harpoon it. He latches the fish to the side of the boat and begind to tow it back to shore triumphant. Then a mako shark approaches and takes a large bite out of the marlin. Santiago kills it with a harpoon. Only later did he realize that the sharks blood would attract more sharks. As more sharks approached Santiago fought with all his might to save his fish but there was too many sharks. By the time he got to shore, he had nothing more than a skeleton. Santiago collapses from exhaustion on the shore but is found by Manolin and calls for help. The community marveled at the size of the skeleton that is still attached to the boat. Manolin takes care of the old man and vows to return to him as an apprentice. Santiago finally gets the repect from his community.
We just arrived at one of the famous fishing holes. Waves rolling over the rocks. We call it the walleye chop. We drop our lines down as fast as we could, like a rock vigorously skipping across the lake. When it finally hits bottom we give it two or three reels up. We turn the fish locator on and it glows with action at all of the fish. My face lit up knowing that fish are down there. We then drop the trolling motor down and gave the remote a few clicks. Slowly the boat glided into motion. As we troll along I gave my new pole a few jigs. My uncle says he has one on. Suddenly, there was tapping at the end of my fishing rod. I let some line out and the fish takes it. I gave it a pull and set the hook. My fish started running. I jerk it back into place; it was swimming my way. My heart began to race as it was inching closer to the boat. I pulled it out of the water and it was a nice 18 incher. Shining with beams of sunlight; I tossed him into the live well. I throw the branded line back down to get some
For my birthday in September my parents gave me an ultimatum, I had to choose between 50 dollars, or I could go on a two week hunting trip. At that time I was a hunting fanatic and chose the hunting trip without a second thought. So a month after my birthday we flew out to Wisconsin and got ready to hunt at my Dad’s parents farm. We got there at about 4:30 p.m. and were debating on going hunting, But I was so gung-ho on hunting that I convinced my dad to take me just for a little while. I was so anxious and excited to be hunting that my hands were shaking.
