Every legend starts with a small act. Will Smith grew to become a legend quickly at a young age. He earned the nickname, Prince because of his quick wits and charm. He is known for his music in a hit duo called Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince became one of the greatest rap groups of the 90’s. Rap is a style that takes rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted in a musical background. The musical background is also called hip-hop. Rap became popular in the 1980s. 4 Will Smith also became a television superstar on a comedy sitcom called The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Smith wanted to do more acting so he pursued movie roles. 1 In 2001, Ali is a movie about the legendary boxer known as Muhammad Ali. This gave Smith a second chance to regain his big screen swagger. Smith has proven himself that he can do dramas for the movie, Ali. This new turn help shows his dedication to acting with his life, training, and disciplining himself and ego. The movie Moore 8 overwhelmed the box office, breaking records on the starting day. The performance was strong enough to earn himself his first Academy Award nomination. 1 Smith was the first hip hop artist was nominated for an Academy Award. Smith did not stay at the Awards due to the lack diversity with all the acting nominees. This will not be the only time that Smith will skip on the ceremony due to sending a message. A few sequels were next with roles for both Men In Black II and Bad Boys II. Neither were a flop nor as impressive as the first at the box office. Staying with the sci-fi action movies, Smith moved to a film called I, Robot in 2004. Isaac Asimov story had Smith play a cop in the future investigation a murder by a robot, then battle a robot insurgency. The movie did well, making more than 144 million dollars domestically.
