Ethics plays a very important role in the healthcare setting, especially when minors are involved. There are several factors and outliers that affect the decision making process as well as the quality of patient care. A major dilemma nurses face is confidentially, especially when parents or guardians have certain legal rights over the minors that limit their choices. All patients whether they are minors should still be able to expect confidentiality. The argument is whether or not teens are able to make these difficult medical decisions alone and whether they understand what’s going on, the procedure process, and all the risks and consequences involved. In this essay I will look at the range of ethical dilemmas that a Nurse may encounter whilst working in a health and social care setting and discuss how individual workers and agencies will deal with these dilemmas. I will also look in the decisions to resolve the dilemmas through the perspectives of different ethical approaches.

Ethical issues in nursing are common and ever-present. Our jobs as nursing students is not only learn medications and how to care for patients of all types, but also learn what common ethical issues in nursing exist and how to correctly deal with them. One ethical issue I came across more than once in clinical and in simulation was the presence of family and friends at the bedside during patient assessments, compromising patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations as well as putting the nurse “on edge” and at higher risk for making a mistake.

If the nurse fails to solve the ethical dilemma, he/she will face moral distress which can decrease his/her performance in clinical practices thus endangers patient’s safety (Cohen and Erickson, 2006). Therefore, in these crisis situations, ethics come into action to help nurses to make the right decision.

Children and respirators are terms typically appalling and scary to society. In the nursing profession, it is often that nurses will deal with these two appalling terms. A case involving these two terms has been analyzed in regards to nursing ethics. Nursing ethics involves several different complex ideas and with the aid of the four way method one is able to analyze and make a decision in regards to controversial and difficult nursing situations. Moral and Ethical dilemmas are encountered constantly in a lot of different career paths. Ethics consists of doing “good” and causing no harm. However “good” can have different meanings to people. As a nurse, the cornerstone of my vocation is that of healing and comforting. As a human being first and as a nurse, I have always had a burning desire to perfect nature. This, I have shared with other scientists who have gone great lengths in their methodical pursuit of useful knowledge to make their dreams real. I have always endeavored to shield scientific inquiry from utilitarian purposes (President's Council on Bio-Ethics, 2009).

Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.

Therefore, this reason is why ethical decisions have to be made carefully. In order to know what to do in this situation, a nurse needs to investigate the matters carefully in terms of the action involved, its outcomes and the situation in which it takes place. Once the nurse has understood these points, they can make the final decision.

Nurses encounter so many issues on a daily basis where they have to make decisions based on the determination of what is right , wrong or ethical. As nurses , we are committed to respecting the rights of our patients while providing care and treatment .It is my belief that a started my career in the nursing field as a Licensed practical nurse with the hope of someday furthering my education but different circumstances in life led me to delay .(The nurse creates and nurtures an intimate bond with the patient and family through a constant presence and hands-on care )

In addition, both national and international nursing associations have laid down the working guidelines and set parameters for code of ethics related to nursing profession .The concepts presented by the CNA, ANA, ICN and other health regulatory bodies also acknowledged giving the opportunities of their own decisions making promote autonomy and justice. I stand for the theme of all nursing associations and ethical principles of nurses for preserving the child rights as dignified human beings, who deserve respect irrespective of their age and competency, fair treatment (justice), and responsible citizen.

The importance of an ethical basis for nursing practice has been emphasized in recent years. The importance of having ethics programs that work with VBP improves patient outcomes as cited in by (Bailes et al., 2014). Ethical values of many can affect any single care decision. Confidentiality is an important element of respect for patients. When providing communication to the patients, nurses should make sure to maintain confidential information. Nurses must also practice fidelity in not sharing any information they know about the patient with anyone else without the patient’s authorization.
