Music festivals were created as a way for people to temporarily escape from the world's conflict. Throughout the decades, festivals continued to grow in popularity and new festivals were created.
The festival that started the the spread of festivals was Woodstock. In 1969 in New York, the first Woodstock was held on a dairy farm. 32 different rock acts came together on the farm to perform. During this time period, the Vietnam war was happening and Thousands of “hippies” traveled to Bethel, New York to see acts like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin perform and to take a break from all the conflict in the world. Woodstock promised 3 days of peace and music. Woodstock was a three day long music festival that brings peace through music, community,
The cultural process of Woodstock consisted of rejoicing in the different styles of music and in each individual that came. The festival included many social dramas. Individuals, in that number, are bound to have differences. Woodstock taught people, approximately 400,000, how to resolve their issues by sharing a common goal. The celebration helped to advance the ideas of peace and unity throughout the generation.
In the summer of 1969, a music festival known as “Woodstock” took place for three straight days in Upstate, New York with thirty-two musical acts playing, and over 400,000 people from around the world coming to join this musical and peaceful movement. Woodstock started out being a small concert, created to promote peace in the world. Now, Woodstock is still being celebrated over 40 years later. This three day music festival represented the perfect concert for the “baby boomers” during a messy political time. Woodstock significantly impacted the counterculture era of the 1960’s in a number of ways; how it began, the ideas of the concert, the sense of union and love it represented and it
Every memory of the summer of 1969 is connected to, in one way or another, the historical event, Woodstock. The festival could not have left more of an impact on the “hippie” generation anymore than it did those three days of music and peace. The generation of the time wanted nothing more than what they got out of Woodstock. Today, people still look back on the festival and think of how well it made history without the expectance of doing so. Woodstock, one of the most important cultural events of the 20th century, combined iconic musical acts with interesting social behavior.
The values, beliefs, and attitudes of the Family of Woodstock have changed over 40 years. When Woodstock occurred 40 years ago rock and roll was everything. There are many changes with the youth’s trends and how they act. There are big differences between the morals and values of the young and the old today. However, they do not create conflict with the delivery of the systems. At the time when Woodstock was going on drugs and rock and roll were big. The young people thought of it as being
Woodstock was held on the dates of August 15th, 16th, and 17th of the summer of 1969. The festival had taken place on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York. “The three days of peace and music” had to be turned into a free admission and take down the fences for everyone. The festival had many different music artists that performed including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Santana, The Who, The Grateful Dead, etc. This was a huge countercultural event for music in America.
Woodstock was originally supposed to be held in the small town of Woodstock,New York and it was supposed to be a recording studio because in the late 60's many people from all over moves there to become musicians. For the studio to get built, a music festival was going to be held, and the ticket sells, we're going to go towards building the Woodstock studio (Perone,23) . Since the city of Woodstock denied their permission the great festival was held at the Max Lasgurs dairy farm in Bethel,New York on August 15-17, 1969, the farm was 600 acres of land. They kept the name "Woodstock" because the creators of the event wanted to still build the studio in Woodstock. Since they only expected a few thousand to come to the
The festival wasn’t held in Woodstock to many people's disbelief because of lack of space there to hold an astounding 100 000 people. So, it was moved to Middletown, New York but a month or so before the first day of the festival, permits were taken away because shockingly, people didn’t want stoners and hippies playing rock and roll in their backyard. This caused a rather big panic among organizers. But because of a very generous farmer, Max Yasgur, the festival location was changed to his farm in Bethel, New York, as he had 600 acres
There is a town called Woodstock which is like an artists’ colony in the Catskill Mountains of New York state. This was where many people thought the Woodstock Music Festival took place. The actual location was on a 600 acre dairy farm owed by Max Yasgur near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel 43 miles southwest of the town of Woodstock.
“Three days of peace and music” held in New York this is what describes the Woodstock festival. The musicians played for the audience for two dollars a ticket. In the beginning the Town's fathers of Woodstock, New York did not want the festival to be held in Woodstock. The crowd was a lot bigger than anyone had expected nearly 40,000 people showed up.Then the crowd of people grew to 500,000 people showing up (Kopper), this was due to the two dollar ticket price. The most famous people in music were there such as Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix performed. The popularity of this festival was also on the rise. Festivals such as, coachella that we have today is based around Woodstock. The downfall of where this was held, the ground got muddy from previous
One of the most famous of these was the Monterey International Pop Music Festival in 1967. It was held in California. Both the Beatles and the Beach Boys were supposed to appear but both of them cancelled. Jimi Hendrix was one of the artists that were there. This helped him become an American star because after he performed he sprayed his guitar in lighter fluid and caught it on fire. It was all caught on film and is a documentary. Another one of these is the famous Woodstock in 1969. It was held in New York on a dairy farm. It rained for three days straight leading up and during the festival. There were over 400,000 people there. There were even two fatalities that they overdosed on heroin. It was also recorded and turned into a
The muddiest four days in history were celebrated in a drug-induced haze in Sullivan County, New York (Tiber 1). Music soared through the air and into the ears of the more than 450,000 hippies that were crowded into Max Yasgur's pasture. "What we had here was a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence," said Bethel town historian Bert Feldmen. "Dickens said it first: 'it was the best of times, it was the worst of times'. It's an amalgam that will never be reproduced again" (Tiber 1). It also closed the New York State Thruway and created one of the nation's worst traffic jams (Tiber 1). Woodstock, with its rocky beginnings, epitomized the culture of that era through music, drug use, and the thousands of hippies who attended,
Many large concerts have been hosted in the United States, but none have been as symbolic and memorable as the three-day music and art festival that shared messages of peace and love. The event was seen as a result of the peace movement and the emergence of the flower children, or “hippies”. Woodstock ‘69 was held near Woodstock, New York in White Lake, New York on August 15 to 17, 1969 and formed a symbol of 1960s American counterculture. There was a sense of social harmony, which with the music, the large mass of people, most in bohemian dresses, and attitudes helped make it ,perhaps, one of the greatest events of the century.
