2/15/12 DBQ: World War II The Road to War
During the early 1920 's many people thought that peace had finally been reached. However, in the late 1920 's and throughout the 1930 's, they realized that they were wrong. Dictators came into power in countries that were displeased with the results of World War I. Germany, Italy and Japan wanted power, so they took aggressive action that not even The League of Nations could stop. British Prime Minister Chamberlain thought that the best way to deal with Hitler was by following a policy of appeasement, but not everybody agreed with him. That is why the causes of World War II vary depending on different perspectives.
Many countries became involved in World War II in 1939 because

(Document 8) William Shirer stated that the Munich Agreement allowed Hitler to take the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia (Document 4). Even though the Europeans were happy not to have to go to war, Shirer felt that this was only a temporary solution, and that War would be avoided for only a short time (Document 4). When World War I ended, Germany had signed a treaty known as the Treaty of Versailles which provided large fines that Germany had to pay and certain restrictions that Germany had to follow. Hitler defied the terms of the Treaty by sending his troops into the Rhineland, which was a demilitarized zone (Document 3). According to Hitler, since the Rhineland was once part of Germany, it should be again (Document 3). France disagreed with Hitler and would only negotiate with him if he withdrew the German troops from the Rhineland (Document 3). Furthermore, if Hitler refused to do so, France was willing to use force, if necessary (Document 3) Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, believed that Germany would continue to attack and conquer land and the people who lived there, regardless of location – and wouldn 't stop until they were the most powerful. That is why Selassie believed that the League of Nations should stop the aggressors (Document 2). Unfortunately, the League of Nations refused to get involved, which allowed Germany to
World War II was after the war that was supposed to be “the war to end all wars”, but World War II started just over a couple decades later. World War II started because of Germany and Japan’s greedy wants of more land, and they were willing to use force to acquire it, spiraling many countries of the world into war. The total aftermath of this war ended up being 60 million people or 2.5 percent of the world's population at the time. The people who said WWI was the war to end all wars could not have had nightmares about the horrifying events of WWII.
People go into war for countless reasons; however, power remains as one of the main factors of war. Wanting to have more power over the world can lead to a global conflict. By the end of the first world war, the Treaty of Versailles kept peace in Europe until Hitler of Germany began violating its contracts. Thus, began World War II that corrected the evil of Hitler with a justifiable cause. Although the second World War brought many casualties, World War II resulted as a justifiable war because it saved nations from German exploitation, began as a last resort after all forms of appeasement failed, and brought the German powers to an unconditional surrender.
From the Treaty of Versailles, to the rise of Hitler, and the failure of the League of Nations, there were many causes that lead up to World War II. World War I left Germany with many shortfalls, thus leaving them in the hands of the Treaty of Versailles. Rather unfair of a Treaty, this left Germany once again looking for another way out. A country resented by many had no other choice but to feel optimistic toward Adolph Hitlers empty promises… making it substantially simple for him to gain power so quick. Throw in the Great Depression, and you have a vastly unstable world, which the Germans believed Hitler would lead them out of.
The first world war was one of the most brutal and remorseless events in history; ‘the global conflict that defined a century’. Over nine million soldiers and a large amount of innocent civilians lost their lives. Empires crumbled, revolution engulfed Russia and America rose to become a dominant world power. Huge armies deployed new weapons of devastating effect from rifles and pistols to torpedoes and flame throwers. These weapons were used not only in the trenches but by tanks too. This was an advantage to those who were able to access such machinery as they could easily launch bullets and missiles at nearby enemy bases. The downfall of the tank was the fact it was unable to cross the trenches. Tanks were not the only pieces of equipment that could access this machinery but U boats and planes too. The British carried ‘bolt action rifles’ in which fired 15 rounds per minute at a minimum range of 1,400 metres away. This allowed the British to take out foes at a far greater range. By using machinery in which rules out the need for getting up close to the enemy was a great advantage during world war one. Soldiers ran from trench to trench attacking with all that they had. This resulted in a massacre as the soldiers running toward the trenches were shot down. Machinery such as machine guns and heavy artillery were the weapons used in the trenches. In modern day society, machine guns are the main weapons used by soldiers. This wasn’t the case around the 1914s. They took four
One of the reasons that caused World War 2 was the treaty of Versailles because President Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau and Lloyd Georges wanted a peace treaty for all different reasons (history on the net, 18/09/15) Woodrow wanted the peace treaty based on his 14-point plan based, this basically means he wanted long lasting peace and he did a speak called the 14- points explaining 14 reasons why he wanted long lasting peace, which he believed would bring peace to Europe. The world was plunging into World War II in 1939 because the league of nations did not accept the appeasement. Chamberlain suggested appeasement because he believed ¨good will and determination¨could solve differences among countries peacefully. Chamberlain said ¨They could not fight to save Czechoslovakia because it is too small of a country.¨ Hitler was going to keep on expanding and and it would get to a point to where no one would be able to stop hitler from expanding. The most effective response to aggression of nations would be collective security because shocked by the will to be taking some military actions when necessary. This was proved to be affected by many people, this gave the allies buying time to make preparations for war. This
World War II was fought between two powers; the axis and the allied powers. The axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria while the allied powers consisted of U.S., Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. While the United States Armed Forces were deployed in other parts of the world, the ones back home were facing the struggles of a war they had no choice but to be involved in. This war was a war that lasted for six years and tallied many casualties. The hard fought war was not fought for any reason, though. World War II was a pivotal point in the 1900’s for, not only states’ rights, but also human rights. The aftermath of the war brought justice to those wronged and a bright future to look ahead to.
The war began because Germany attacked Poland and the United Kingdom, France and other countries joined forces declared war on Germany. The United States thought the Japanese had spies. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and got in States involve in World War II .They had to send all Japanese American to these camps. The United States tried to protect themselves because the government thought the Japanese had spies.
Lets return to the earth shattering occasions from 1939 to 1945 that reshaped the world. It may well be that this recognition will prompt rediscoveries and new gratefulness — the way the Bicentennial provoked prominent and scholarly rediscovery of American convention going back to the Revolution and the Constitution.
Most people have had a problem with someone, some might refer to it like a war. War by definition is generally characterized by extreme aggression, destruction, and mortality. However, for forty-four years a war that would scare millions around the world occurred. This war was not all brutality, it was arguments that would change the world forever. This war was known as the Cold War.
“One death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic.”- These words were spoken by Joseph Stalin after the largest and bloodiest battle in human history, Stalingrad. The eastern front of World War II was one the bloodiest single war of all time. Once the Germans invaded the USSR they did not know they had unleashed the Soviet storm. During Russia’s great patriotic war, the battles of the eastern front led to the downfall of the German Reich.

Throughout Art History, it is apparent that techniques are established and flaunted to create some vivid image of a story, or a message. Up to the post war of World War II, art has delivered a scene which can be interpreted through context clues such as; current philosophies, current events, and folk-lore. Then, mainstream art had undergone a significant change in theme post World War II. New York City, United States of America, became the art capital of the world. Why? It is arguably due to Abstract Expressionist art and Pop Art known as Modernism. Modernism completely new to the world, and both of which abandoning some common core themes to art. Two famous artists whom facilitated and practiced such dramatic alterations in art culture are Paul Jackson Pollock, or just known as Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol.
World War II began because of the imbalance of power on the planet and the problems that had arisen as a result of the First World War, particularly disagreement on the issue of territories. Those who won the First World War such as USA, England, and France signed Treaty of Versailles which was not good but humiliating for the
The grounds for World War II were set at the end of World War I when a very fragile and unstable Germany looked towards a young and ambitious man named Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist party, for aid. (livescience) Adolf Hitler was a powerful speaker, he was able to take control of Germany by seducing the crowds with ideas of a perfect Germany, the greatness of Germany, and how the Treaty of Versailles caused the collapse and ruin of Germany. Political and social groups can influence society and government like National Socialist was able to influence Germany and the Government to follow Adolf Hitler.
