As World War II progressed, conflicts between Japan and the French spilled into Vietnam. The main “services” that Vietnamese gave to the French was the Vietnamese’ assistance against the Japanese despite everything that the French had implored upon Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh speaks about the French and Japanese battling for the Vietnam territory and ultimately the Vietnamese Republic paid the price. Minh argued the fact that despite an increase in the "sufferings and miseries" of the Vietnamese people, they continued to assist the French in battle. Minh stated that the Vietnamese extended a tolerant attitude toward the French. Minh also stated the Vietnamese helped the French cross the frontier, rescue French people from Japanese jails, and
On December 31, 1890 a transition in history occured. New York City would start a new era in the history of the United States starting with the opening of Ellis Island as an immigration depo. This attracted many immigrants to the United Stated because of more job opportunities and as means to start a new life. As more immigrants came to America, it began to be known as the "land of opportunities". Immigrants coming in filled work spaces in industries with the hopes of someday becoming successful. These immigrants helped prove to other future immigrants that if you moved to America then you could start a better life for yourself and your families. On the other hand with positives come negatives and there were many involving
The other similarity between Vietnam War and World War 2 by comparing and contrasting elements of O’ Brien’s story with other sources was that both wars sacrificed many soldiers and innocent people. In “The Things They Carried,” Kiowa who was the best friend of O’Brien and Ted Lavender who scared the war died because Jimmy misjudged the situation in a sewage field. It indicates cruelness of Vietnam War. World War 2 was the most destructive war in human history what left most property damage and personal injuries from September 1, 1939, to September 2, 1945. It started from the Germany invasion of Poland. Many people died during the war. People in Korea and China were also victims of the World War 2. Japanese controlled their governments
Chapter 18 portrayed the gruesome Vietnam War as the greatest antiwar movement the nation has faced. North Vietnam, led by Communist Ho Chi Minh, fought against South Vietnam, a democratic nation, for the expansion of land. Ho Chi Minh took control of Indochina from Japan. England occupied the southern part of Indochina and gave it to the French. Nationalist China controlled northern part of Indochina and neglected to return the land to the French due to its immense wealth in rubber and coal. As a result, the United States was involved in the Vietnam War and paid $1 billion to safeguard the French from China. Ultimately, the Unites States desired to prevent the domino theory, the spreading of Communism in Asia. Even with the immense support from the United States, the French were unable to win the Vietnamese popular support. Therefore, the United Sates supported the leader, Ngo Dinh Diem, the leader of South Vietnam, against the Communist nation. The United States involvement was a turning point in history and had a huge impact on society.
Ho Chi Minh’s September 2, 1945 speech was given in front of hundreds of thousands of people with strong patriotic tone and diction recognized by any American inclined to listen. Ho pointed to the enslavement of the Vietnamese that had been enforced by the French Imperialists and how the continuous bartering of the Vietnamese territory by the French to the Japanese plundered the Vietnamese people into a state of extreme poverty. Time and time again, the Viet-Minh had worked to help the French stay afloat from Japanese Axis Powers and even offered to let the French join in the fight against the Japanese throughout WWII; however, the Viet-Minh was still met with bitter destruction of Vietnamese freedom and equality. Ho used his speech to
This photo was taken by the Press photographer Nick Ut in South Vietnam at 1972. It shows one part of the Vietnam war. According to CNN website, the South Vietnamese dropped napalm on their civilians by mistake. That cause horrible situation. In this photo the children run because of this attached. at the center of the photo, there is Thi Kim Phuc, who is naked, ripped of her burning clothes when she was running. This photography shows the revulsions of the war which increase the anti-war sentiment. The Vietnam war was the reason of the horrified and bum families.
For centuries the Vietnamese people resisted being controlled by their powerful Chinese neighbors. They struggled to unify their country as an independent state. Ultimately they freed themselves from China 's claim for control of political authority and achieved national unity only to fall victim to French imperialism (Anderson 1). French ruled Vietnam and neighboring kingdoms as colonies from the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. Japanese occupation of Southeast Asia during World War II influenced the Vietminh war against the French in 1945. September 2nd, 1945, Ho Chi Minh declares independence from French rule shortly after Japans surrender from World War II (www.history.com). France 's rule over its colony was incredibly brutal and exploitative (Anderson 6). French colonialism deprived the Vietnamese of their political independence, and it impoverished many of the Vietnamese people (Anderson 7). Many villagers lost their lands and became low-paid plantation
Ho Chi Minh Ho Chi Minh was a Communist, who had announced Vietnam independent. He was a Marxist and believed in “national Communism ". Throughout the war with the French, Ho Chi Minh took refuge in northern Vietnam and settled there with his followers. He founded the Indochina Communist Party and the Viet Minh. North Vietnam was a deprived area and was cut off from the agricultural profit of South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was forced to ask assistance from main Communist allies, the Soviet Union and China. Both aided North Vietnam before and during the war. (Dong Si Nguyen, Duong xuyen Truong son: hoi uc. Hanoi: Nha Xuat Ban Quan Doi Nhan Dan, 1999). Ho Chi Minh declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. This had been a tremendously significant event in world history perhaps the most important event since the 1917 October Revolution in Russia. It marked the first occasion in human history in which a radical national movement under Communist leadership had succeeded in overthrowing the influence of a colonial state and establishing and maintaining its own new, independent form of social and political system. However, Ho’s type of communism was markedly different than that of Marxist ideology that had been the metaphorical icon of the October Revolution. alike to Jose Antonio’s fascist movement, the hierarchical communist party (later renamed the Vietminh) conformed intimately to the ideas of the person at its head, but unlike Antonio’s movement, did not
At the end of WWI, in 1919, a young man named Nguyen That Thanh, who later changes his name to Ho Chi Minh, attended the Paris Peace Conference in hopes that he will be able to speak up for a free Vietnam without French rule. However, Ho is ignored and Vietnam remains under French colonial rule. Twenty-one years later, in September of 1940, during WWII, Japan took over Vietnam as well as Laos and Cambodia. In 1941, Ho Chi Minh formed the Viet Minh, which was a League for an Independent Vietnam. Starting March 9, 1945, Japan started occupying Vietnam, pushing out the French for good (The Vietnam War Timeline of Important Dates). Japan also installed Emperor Bao Dai into power in Vietnam as a way to imitate a free Vietnam. However, the Vietnamese people, especially Ho Chi Minh, were not satisfied with this
The purpose of a myth is to act as a traditional story that explains cultural beliefs and values. Whereas a genre is what classifies these stories and puts them into categories. Over time the concept of myths and culture has been carefully interwoven and tastefully used in stories. People have shaped myths using epic conventions which gives greater meaning to the cultural significance. This allows people to appreciate the cultural motive and theme more-so than they would have if the story would have been told without any epic relativity. Stories such as The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Odyssey, are great examples of how mythic culture is interwoven.
By 1940, Japan had invaded Vietnam and stripped France of all colonial control, and in 1941 they had bombed Pearl Harbor. Ho Chi Minh saw this as a chance to seek independence for his country of Vietnam. He put together a small nationalist army called Viet Minh and helped in Vietnam fighting the Japanese and working with the Americans, who saw him as a nationalist, not a communist. Ho’s regime helped rescue and care for American fliers who were shot down in the region. In August 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing 150,000 Japanese, ending World War II.
Ho Chi Minh was a Vietnamese man who was born to a modest family in 1890. His father, Nguyen Sinh Sac, was a gifted scholar and was academically successful. However, he did not move up in a manner that his academic rank would have suggested. Instead of accepting these ranks, he declined them so he would not have to attend to the imperial family because they were appointed by the French (313). Sac was whole-heartedly against the French, who were in control of Vietnam at the time. Even though he did not accept academic ranks, he worked hard to make sure that Ho was educated appropriately. In 1905, Ho began schooling at a Franco-Vietnamese school. Here, Ho learned all about the social, cultural, and linguistic aspects of France. Why would Sac
Ho Chi Minh did not live to witness the last helicopter lift off from the U.S. Embassy roof on April 30th 1975, an event that marked the fall of Saigon and the final stage of a decades long conflict. Ho died in 1969, six years shy of realizing his lifelong dream of a unified and independent Vietnam. Ho’s leadership was central to a victory won against formidable adversaries with vast resources; first the colonial French, and later an illegitimate South Vietnamese regime propped up by U.S power. Beginning in 1946 Ho led the Vietnamese people in a guerilla war that required relentless resolve and discipline to endure the debilitating casualties and destruction. Victory would have been impossible without the backing of the Vietnamese people, and Ho’s deep understanding of his countrymen allowed him to frame the struggle in familiar terms that inspired the enormous sacrifices needed to achieve victory.
Vietnam long controlled by France, had also been occupied by the Japanese during World War II. France was determined to win back its empire after the war and was backed strongly by the British. The US was influenced by the British and also supported the French. Ho Chi Minh, the rebel leader of Vietnam, had other plans. He was indomitable about getting independence for Vietnam, and would settle for nothing less. The US backed France strongly economically in its
Cultural borders play a major role in educational systems. A teacher must be able to acknowledge the cultural differences within a classroom, and properly develop a curriculum that is suitable for the diversity. “Transcending Cultural Borders: Implications for Science Teaching” by Olugberimo J. Jegede and Glen S. Aikenhead, explain that an education system suitable for all cultures can be achieved, by giving special attention to the variety of cultures within a class. Minimizing the cultural borders within the educational system will benefit the future of society as a whole, by uniting students with the basis of an education.
Much of Vietnam’s success against the French occupants can be attributed to the resources they gained from the Chinese Communist Party, who were close allies with the Viet Minh during the Indochina War (Hunt, 125). These successes come in spite of the fact that the United States assisted the French during these years of war (Hunt, 125). Without this additional assistance from American forces, the French would have most likely retreated even earlier, given that “the war was eating up 10 percent of France’s national budget” (Hunt, 125). On a similar note, without the French receiving American forces, the Viet Minh may not have necessarily turned towards the Chinese Communist Party in an effort to defeat the French. America intervened on the side of colonialism in an effort to deter communism manifesting itself in the Vietnamese revolution, but it almost encouraged it. Without joining the fight out of a larger fear, America may have been happier with the overall outcome of the Indochina War had they not chosen sides. However, they did choose to play a part in this conflict, and made more chaotic and severe than it may have been
