World War II DBQ
After the deaths of 37,508,686 soldiers by the end of World War I, Europe was a mess. Countries had been dissolved and rearranged, governments had fallen and been replaced, and economies were thriving then crashing, all as a result from World War I. One of the main goals at the end of World War I was to prevent another tragedy like World War I from happening again. Clearly that did not happen, as World War II still happened, causing over 50 million deaths. The repercussions of World War I caused World War II due to radical ideology, bad economic conditions, and nationalism to the point of extremity. The rise of Fascism in Italy contributed to World War II because of it’s militaristic and nationalistic

The British found out about Hitler “reoccupying the Rhineland” (Document #9),a direct violation against the League of Nations. Woodrow Wilson, the President of the United States in 1918, proposed the idea of an international peace-keeping organization in his 14 Points speech. Germany was allowed to join the League of Nations through the Treaty of Locarno in 1925, in hopes that this organization would be able to help prevent any future world wars. Another violation of the League of Nations was Italy’s invasion of Ethiopia in 1935. In World War I, Italy started out fighting on the side of the Germans and the Austrians and switched sides halfway through the war. The invasion of Ethiopia was a direct violation of Article X of the League of Nations, because not only was Ethiopia a member of the League of Nations, but the invasion resulted in the Italo-Ethiopian War, which started in October of 1935, right after Mussolini’s invasion of Ethiopia. The Italians violated the rules of the League of Nations, but Germany also violated the Treaty of Versailles. Due to Germany taking back the colonies lost after World War I and forming an alliance with Austria, Germany’s actions against the Treaty of Versailles contributed to the cause of World War II. After Germany got slapped with a $33 Billion dollar war reparation bill and Kaiser Wilhelm was removed from power, Germany was a mess, which allowed the rise of Hitler. Hitler, being a former Iron Cross winning

In 1914 World War I began, Europe got quickly involved. As we know the United States is a neutral nation because George Washington believed in neutrality for this nation. President Woodrow Wilson announced that the U.S would stay neutral during World War I. Germany kept instigating the United States to get involved with this war so their decision was made. On April 6th 1917 the United States was fully in World War I. This was a smart decision of them to make.
World War 1 DBQ Trenches are everywhere, land exploding, metal wastes, waste and dead bodies of brave soldiers lying everywhere , pollution in the air just because of one cause militarism. Militarism was one of the biggest underlying causes of the war. From the nations blaming each other on who started the war, to polls of how much money each nation spend on their military, to also trying to persuade people to make our military stronger. Militarism was a huge part into making World War 1.
Though most historians consider the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary the most immediate cause of WWI, or the rise of Germany to be the main cause since they signed the Versailles Treaty (Doc 4), many agree that the war was not caused by just one thing. Instead, it was caused by a concept instead of specific people or countries. It seemed that everyone, during this time period, had started to increase their military power and defense systems. Therefore, World War I was caused by two things: the fear these countries had of losing their power, and the big toll that European Imperialism took international relations.
The ending of World War I and Beginning of World War II, was another frustrating time for civil rights parties, fighting for the rights of colored people. A. Phillip Randolph was a huge contributor towards civil rights movements at this time, working hard with other passionate people and groups, to fight against white supremeness, help move the United States into an equal playing field for all. Randolph tackled the issue of not only the lack of blacks in the armed forces at the time, but the lack of respect, and basic human rights towards African Americans in the armed forces. The New Deal which was supposed to help pull Americans out of the great depression, was another issue that civil rights groups had to fight for. Both black and white
Cuba didn't want another foreign country imposing their government over them, which America brought upon them anyways by not granting them full independences and having moderate control over them. Both Spain and America abandon them which left corrupt rebel types in control with no outline of governance or proper constitution. It also granted Native people rebelling against U.S. rules. As time goes on, America is looking at Cuba as an enemy from the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 and not an allied country even though they joined a war to help them gain their independence. So basically, America joined a war to make an enemy and intervening into the war they could have avoided. This may have brought a decent amount of gain for them, but countless U.S. lives were lost from it, and created
Was the United States correct in 1945 when it became the first (and only) nation to use atomic weapons against Japan at the end of World War 2? I believe that it was the right thing to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. My position is correct because when Japan bombed the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7th, 1941 more than 2,300 Americans died. The president didn't have any choice but to bomb both Hiroshima and Nagasaki since those who attacked the Pearl Harbor without warning.
Ironically, this war was designed to end all wars. All it did was write more conflicts. World War I lasted from 1914 to 1918. It was sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Sooner or later, multiple nations across Europe were involved in the bloodbaths of battle.
As a result of the Treaty of Versailles, the Germans were forced to accept full blame for starting WWI. With 32 billion dollars to repair and giving up on many overseas colonies, Germans were very unhappy and thought the end of WWI was harsh. They voted for a man who could improve social, economic, and political conditions, causing the beginning of WWII. In 1934, Adolf Hitler was selected as president of Germany.
Multiple long term factors played a significant role in causing World War II. Firstly, the Treaty of Versailles greatly damaged the German economy. It forced Germany to take the blame for the damages from World War I, disarm their military, and pay vast amounts of money. The Germans despised the treaty and resented the Allied Powers. Hitler was able to use this resentment and anger to his advantage by promising to lift restrictions if the Germans would submit to him. Not only that, but Hitler was able to continue to grow the German army since the treaty’s military restrictions weren’t strict. Secondly, the Great Depression ruined the German economy, leading to unstable governments. Since their economy was slowly falling apart without a leader
The devastation left by the Great War (aka World War 1) had greatly destabilized Europe, and in many aspects World War II grew out of issues left unresolved by the conflicts of WW1. In particular, political and economic instability in Germany left by the harsh punishments and terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty, fueled the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party.
The main cause of World War II was the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles was signed to make peace after World War 1, and the War Guilt Cause stated that Germany was the cause of the war so they needed to pay off all of their debts. Germany lost plenty of land because of the treaty. This made life hard for Germans because they needed to find a new place to live and they lost a lot of money. Germany had lost this land because of the treaty; this made Hitler suggest that they should fight to get back what they lost(Doc A).
At the end of world war I germany was forced to give back a lot of land, later on Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany and he enforced the Nazi party throughout Germany . Hitler 's goals were to make Germany the best country by doing this he caused another world war. During World war II Germany was part of the axis powers. The axis powers at first was made up Germany, Ussr, Japan, and Italy. Throughout the war germany betrayed the USSR and broke the nazi-soviet pact. this caused for the ussr to join forces with the allies US, China, and Great Britain. hitler 's main goal of leading germany was to make germany more powerful. he gained lebensraum or living space so they can have places grow crops because they were in a food shortage. Germany gained about 50 percent of europe. this was because post ww1 the kellogg briand-pact was formed and signed by the european countries, us , and Japan. This pact was made so that all who signed it did not use war to resolve a conflict. the league of nations was also formed and people were not obeying the league of nations nor the kellogg briand pact. the fact that there were no consequences had a major impact on world war two. germany was a big fan of not following these rules. germany broke the league of nations and the kellogg briand pact. germany withdrew from them and began by gaining land through appeasement. countries that were part of these pacts followed them so in order to prevent war with germany a lot
Germany had killed the Archduke and his duchess; causing the World War I. Germany also started World War II for attacking Poland. Which, as Adolf Hitler claimed, was a defensive action. World War II would not have happened, if the Treaty of Versailles had less excessive deprivation of German rights. In other words, if the Germans were not stripped of so many rights, there would have been a chance that WWII could have been avoided.
Although a victor in the Great War, Italians felt cheated in the Paris Peace Conference because they hadn’t received lands secretly promised to them when they had first joined the war. This bitterness towards the Allies combined with the internal economic turmoil that the democratic parliament proved ineffective in resolving caused desperate Italians to seek help from a rising fascist leader by the name of Benito Mussolini. While fascism may have seemed idealistic with a “collective community under a powerful leader who embodied its will” (Connections: A World History), it gave the leader unrestricted power. As Mussolini stated, “It is to be expected that this century may be that of authority, a century of the “right,” a Fascist century. If the nineteenth was the century of the individual it may be expected that this one may be the century of “collectivism” and therefore the century of the State” (Doctrine on Fascism, Benito Mussolini). What he left out in this statement was the way in which he would achieve this goal. He sent groups of Blackshirts to suppress resistance and attack socialists and communists on the streets while focusing on eliminating all opposing parties in parliament. Eventually, he turned Italy into a one-party state with supporters that implemented violence as a means to maintain control. Not long after the globally notorious Great Depression put
