dYT2D- “Your Turn to Discover”
Explore, Sparks Make Fire, Deep Dive, Light Your Fire, Burn Baby Burn, Personal Pursuits- whatever you want to call this project- it is YT2D.
Intro- This year we studied “Human Impact on the Biosphere” and crayfish and ethics, learned a bit about DNA and “Genetics and Identity”, wrestled with WWII and the Holocaust, read The Martian and thought about energy and ethics again, then studied Truth in Othello and evolution. With your effort, Synapse 10 learned, made connections, and had some fun- now it is YT2D.
This is your opportunity to choose what you study. You will spend the next four weeks working on this. You will have at least half of our class time each week and should consider this final project your homework as well.
Your Task- Look over the “checklist” of indicators and choose an area of personal interest to discover. Make sure that your discovery/research/independent learning addresses your listed learning indicators. Plan on presenting or displaying a product that demonstrates your learning on the evening of June 2nd at the Community Barbeque from 5-6:30 pm.

John Froelich built the first gasoline powered tractor in Clayton County, Iowa, USA. John Froelich was a grain elevator operator, and every harvesting season he would go a thresh farmer’s fields, and after years of using his bulky, heavy steam powered threshing machine he decided in 1890 to try and mount a gasoline engine on his threshing machine. The steam powered threshing machine was bulky, hard to transport, and dangerous to use in the fields. Since the thresher was steam powered it was hot, and created sparks that sometime light the fields on fire. John Froelich was sick of dealing with this dangerous machine and decided to mount a gasoline powered engine on it. His idea worked and he harvested 72,000 bushels of grain in all. ("John Froelich, inventor of the gas-powered tractor, is

Third, the events of D-day were very crucial for winning the war.

In 1861 a German engineer named Nikolaus August Otto built his first gasoline-powered engine. Three years later he would team up with Eugen Langen to form the Deutz Gas Engine Factory. Otto’s engine was based on the same principles of Lenoir’s. It was also a two-stroke engine with one cylinder but it used the different type of fuel, gasoline rather than coal gas. Otto and Langen learned of a way to gain more efficiency by compressing the gas before combustion in 1867. This led them to production of the first four-stroke
