Dated back to the 10th century B.C., the story of Adam and Eve is told in Genesis chapters 2 and 3 of the Christian Bible. The creation is the main focus of chapter 2 and their fall and punishment is the main focus in chapter 3. God creates Adam in his image from mud, he blows to his face and gives him life. God presents all of the animals of the land to Adam and he is not satisfied, so God created Eve out of Adams rib as a companion and helper for him, and he is satisfied with Gods work. God commands Adam and Eve to not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But, the serpent persuades Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, and she persuades Adam to do so as well. After they eat the forbidden fruit they realize they are naked

However, evil soon entered the garden in the form of a serpent. One day when Eve was walking in the garden she encountered the evil serpent who encouraged her to take a fruit from one of God’s forbidden fruit trees. The serpent succeeded in deceiving Eve to take a fruit; she then ate the fruit and shared it with Adam. Then God became angry with Adam and Eve for betraying Him. To punish Adam and Eve, he ejected them from the garden and subjecting them to mortality, painful childbirth, sin and shame.

In Genesis Adam and Even, the first humans on earth, live in the Garden of Eden. They are very unaware and unknowledgeable. Though they are ignorant they are happy. They live a plentiful life until Eve is tricked into eating the apple from the tree of knowledge. Adam and Ever were both told not to eat “from the tree that was to be desire to make one wise”(3.4). As soon as she takes a bight her eyes are opened to everything she is doing wrong. She feels uncomfortable being naked in front of Adam. Adam’s curiosity also takes over and he takes a bight of the forbidden apple. When God learns of their betrayal he becomes angry and banished them from the garden.

The serpent eventually persuades Eve to eat from the “Tree of Knowledge”. After she eats from it, she has Adam eat from it. Shortly after, they finally notice they are naked and become self conscious and cover up. God then asks about what they have done and Eve blames Adam, while Adam blames the Serpent. God curses them, and makes Eve suffer through labor and banishes both of them from the Garden of Eden.

Things change when the serpent appeared to Eve and talked her into eating from the exact tree that God commanded them to eat from. Genesis 3:6 says, “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate” (NIV). This is where the root of all human problems began. This is why all humans are born as sinners.

The discussion of immortality went all the way back to Adam and Eve because ever since they took from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they were banished from the Garden of Eden. Being banished from the Garden of Eden put them out of reach of the Tree of Life, which would make them immortal and god-like. Chappell explained how the Tree of Life is a metaphor for human mortality. Humans can use science and innovation to prolong life, but they will forever be out of reach of immortality. Immortality, according to Chappell, is possibly a modern-day myth. Scientific possibly leading to immortal life is something that humans can only hope for much like finding the Fountain of Youth. However, this desire to find a way to live forever is something that only exists in the minds of human beings. I believe that animals do not have the same awareness levels that humans do, which can often leave humans jealous because animals most likely do not have the same fears of dying or growing old that humans possess.

In Genesis, God interacts with Adam by speaking to him face to face. Whether God was giving out instructions or punishment to Adam and Eve, he was always doing it on a personal level. The usual portrayal of God as an omniscient being is instead replaced as mentor to Adam and Eve who is trying to help them understand their existence. This close relationship is shown even when man does something wrong. The only rule that God gives to Adam is that he must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve go on to break the singular rule and be punished; but not to the extent most would think. Before partaking of the fruit God says that, "the day that you eat of it you shall die"(Genesis). Instead of dying, Adam and Eve are removed from the garden and go begin their lives. God punishes them for their actions, but also gives clothes and allows them to take the knowledge they have gained from the tree. Even after breaking the one rule that he has set for them, God allowed them to keep the knowledge they gained to begin mankind. This grace towards humanity is shown once again with Adam and Eve's children, Cain and Abel. Cain kills Abel after God accepts Abel's offering and not his own. Even with Cain having killed his own brother, God still does not punish Cain severally; "you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth"(Genesis). This punishment is especially seen as inadequate as Cain goes on to settle in Nod and have his own family. This mercy by God shows that he was unable to punish humanity even for the most serious of offenses. This lack of punishment shows God's sympathy for mankind because of his close relationship with them. This close relationship stems from God's close bond with mankind because of their similar image and knowledge. Cain ends up killing his brother Abel because Abel’s heart was faithful and was devoted to God and his commitment was trustworthy in God’s eyes. When Cain realized that God was not pleased with his sacrifice but accepted Abel’s, he became extremely jealous and felt a strong hatred in his heart and jealous of his brother and killed him out of envy. The book of Genesis records the creation of the world and everything in it, as well the early relationship between God and humanity. God creates man, Adam, “from the dust of the ground” (Genesis 2:7) and places him in a paradise on Earth called the garden of Eden, where he also places the tree of knowledge of good and evil. From the man, God creates a woman and tells them that they “may freely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil [they] shall not eat, for in the day that [they] eat of it [they] shall die (Genesis 2:16). As Adam and Eve ate the fruit, they became naked and god cursed them by banishing them from the Garden of Eden and placing a guard around the Tree of Life. The serpent is pre-existent evil and is considered a proto, a type of Satan (devil).

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. After having created everything on Earth, He made man. “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’”(NIV Genesis 2:15). Thus, He made Eve from the rib of Adam. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge but the evil serpent, who was craftier than them, tricked Eve into eating the fruit. Eve later convinced Adam after having argued with him and he gave in. Both were punished by God for having gone against His word and would suffer the consequences of it. “So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After He drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden a cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life” (Genesis 3:23-24).

In six days God created the universe, the earth, and every living thing on it. This includes human beings, who were made in Gods own image. God created Adam and Eve to have an unobstructed relationship with him, He placed them in a paradise called the Garden of Eden and gave them freedom to live in friendship and trust with him. God saw that everything he created was good and He rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2). God left Adam and Eve in the garden with specific instructions: they are NOT to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. However, they rebel and sin enters the world after a serpent tricks Eve into questioning God’s love and motives. In her gullible innocence, she ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3). Eve shared the fruit with Adam and they spiritually and physically die. The narrative shows that three players took part in changing the fate of creation. The serpent, the antagonist in this event challenged the first woman, Eve, questioning the accuracy and motive of the Creator’s instructions saying, “Did God really say, ‘you can’t eat from any tree in the garden? You will not die…in fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will like God knowing good and evil’” (3:1 & 4, HCSB). Of note, in this retelling of the sin narrative is the premise that God created mankind as a free will being. This conclusion is extractable from the guidelines God gave to Adam and Eve.

Finding life in death can be equated to finding light in darkness. In the Bible, Yahweh is generally associated with the light of life, yet He also causes a majority of the death and destruction within His resplendent creation. Yahweh’s creation and management of humans illustrates this paradoxical relation between creation and destruction which can be synonymous with life and death or knowledge and ignorance. Man and woman were created to remain in a state of childlike innocence within the Garden of Eden. However, when Adam and Eve disobeyed Yahweh by eating from the tree of good and evil, they not only received the knowledge of their impending death, but gained an awareness of their life that replaced their previous naiveté.

The first incident to talk about is: Adam and Eve disobeying God. Originally in the creation, Adam and Eve enjoyed one another and God, with no influence from the dark side. They had regular walks together through the garden of Eden, God gave them everything they could ever need, and they were unclothed around the place with no feeling of shame or fear. Out of many trees, there was only one which was forbidden from touching, or eating of its fruit, the tree that contained the knowledge of the evil. Why was the tree on the garden in the first place if God wanted them to conserve their innocence?
