Will the virus spread to Canada? This is very unlikely. The confirmed cases of the Zika virus in Canada involve people who have travelled to areas with outbreaks. The risk of infection within Canada is low, as the Aedes mosquitoes are not established in Canada because they are not well-suited to our climate. 2. When doing a media audit I felt that for the most part The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention media releases about Zika Virus were very informative, helpful, and timely. However, in January 2016 it was reported that The CDC rescheduled their advisory warning three times that day before finally giving their phone conference at 7p.m.(Washington Post, 2016). When the travel notice was released there was a lot of questions from the public. At this time The CDC didn’t have many answers as to what all was going on except that they found a connection between Zika Virus and fetuses , "What we know now is that fetuses can be infected with the virus. That's not new for infectious diseases, but it is new for this virus,”
In conclusion the zika virus is a dangerous thing to the humans and the other animals out in the world. I hope you have learn something about this. Like the effect it could have on you or other
The purpose of Lupton’s article is to collaboratively working with global health organizations to stop the spread of Zika virus by educating residents living in affected areas about the risk and complications of the virus and how to prevent women of reproductive age from getting infected. The author addresses that there are over 35 countries around the world, including Brazil, have been affected with Zika virus. The spreading of the virus has caused great concerns to un-infected neighbor countries about the increasing risk of the congenital abnormalities. One of the most important of the author’s point of views is that health care providers should educate their patients and/or people in the community with knowledge about potential dangerous
What is the Zika virus exactly? Have you heard of it before? Have you seen what it has done? It's just now starting to affect people in the U.S. The Zika virus is a usually mild disease that's transmitted through mosquitos. Most people recover, and severe illness or deaths from the virus are rare. The Zika virus is especially dangerous for pregnant women and their babies, and is thought to be spread around Central and South America to which pregnant women have been advised to not travel, because of results in sickness, and fatal birth defects in newborn babies. However many things are being done to fight the virus at all costs.
As more awareness of the Zika virus grows the cost to combat its detection, prevention and treatment grow too. Without the funding to address and implement necessary testing, precautions, and treatment the Zika virus will have a tremendous global impact on the already poverty-stricken originating regions as well as those who visit impacted areas. “Despite the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) issuance of emergency use authorizations, diagnostic tests are slow, expensive, and of variable accuracy.” (Gostin, Hodge 2016)
The Zika virus. What is it? It is a virus that is caused by a mosquito bite. The general signs and symptoms are similar to the flu or any other virial illness. The virus remains in the blood stream for at least a week and may also be found in semen. There is not any vaccine or treatment. The only thing that can be done is preventive care. One must protect themselves from mosquito’s bites and use protection during sexual activities, or sustain from having sex all together especially if their partner is pregnant. They should use the same treatment that one uses for any virial illness but they should reframe from the use of aspirins or non-steroid anti inflammatory drugs. On January 22,2016, CDC activated its Incident Management System
The Zika virus is a disease that has been tearing through all of the Americas. With its new found, symptoms scientists are in a scramble to figure out how it happened and how to stop it. But, if scientists don’t find a cure quickly this disease could continue to spread to the rest of Northern America and even all over the
The Zika virus is spread primarily by the mosquito species Aedes. To decrease the spread of Zika through mosquitos is to implement a series of precautions. The first action is to destroy mosquito breeding grounds by using pesticides and drain any still water. Secondly impellent the use mosquito netting in homes and businesses. The third step is to encourage the use of bug spray, mainly those containing DEET. Additionally, when traveling outside of Puerto Rico to a non-infected area continue to wear repellent for two weeks to prevent the transmission of Zika to local mosquitos(“Prevention”). It has been found that Zika can also be spread through sexual transmitted. To prevent the sexual transmission of Zika it is recommended to abstain or wear condoms during sex for 8 weeks after potential exposure, even if symptoms are not exhibited (Oster 1). It is still unsure Zika can be sexually transmitted by females or if other body fluids beside blood and sperm (e.g. saliva) can carry the Zika virus (“Zika and Sexual Transmission”). If these steps are taken and meet Puerto Rico will be able to control and prevent many Zika
As the number of individuals being diagnosed with the Zika virus, there is a growing concern on the effects of how the virus actually affects the system and how the body responds to it. The virus is huge problem as there are no licensed medical countermeasures. Vaccines, therapies and preventive drugs are being developed but they are years away. The journal article published by Robert W. Malone, Jane Homan, Michael V. Callahan, Jill Glasspool-Malone, Lambodhar Damodaran, Adriano De Bernardi Schneider, Rebecca Zimler, James Talton, Ronald R. Cobb, Ivan Ruzic, Julie Smith-Gagen, Daniel Janies, and James Wilson (2016) talks about the results of potential medical countermeasures being developed and reported cases of the Zika virus.
The two articles describe some basic knowledge about the Zika virus. Nearly 30 countries reported the Zika virus from last spring. Many experts began to study how to treat the Zika virus. However, the warning from World Health Organization predicated “ As many as four million people would be infected by the end of the year”. At the present stage, find out the root reason by international cooperation become the most important thing.
We have been underestimating the virus and it has spiraled out of porportion. Without better global surveillance of the disease, it will become harder to prepare for possible virus outbreaks in urban areas. Having global surveillance is very costly, which is why most developing countries do not have it. Zika is an easy to miss disease with there not being many symptoms or cases of it. The first outbreak was on Yap Island. Over 70 percent of the population developed the virus, yet researchers did not know how to cure or find it easily. There are still many things that are unknown to us about this virus, which is why the time is now to fight against
This article does a great job at explaining the importance of researching the Zika virus because it is continuing to become more common in the United States. It gives the reader a clear view on the detrimental affects of the virus. I think the title is a good representation of the content in the article and keeps the reader interested. The abstract is specific and pulls important information out of the article for the reader to focus on. In the methods section, it gives the reader insight to the searching process that took place, including the databases used (Medline, Embase, & Global Health Library) and keywords such as “Zika”, “epidemic”, and “outbreak” to name a few (Paixao…Rodrigues, 2016).
The prevalence of the Zika virus is increasing drastically in the United States. The CDC (2016) informs that there is currently a total of 32,725 people affected by this virus, with 98.74% locally acquired mosquitos-born cases and 1.24% travel-associated cases. The CDC also informs that the Zika virus is growing worldwide. Countries need to be prepared and strengthen detection and prevention, as well as care and support for people with this disease. This rapid growth of Zika virus has yet to be met with a large scientific response. It presents many urgent and challenging scientific questions. In an effort to raise awareness in the communities and help prevent the extension of locally acquired mosquitoes-born cases all over the U.S, we decided to elaborate a project that would be focused on prevention and education of the Zika virus, in affected and non-affected communities in the U.S.
Furthermore, Zika virus is usually mild with symptoms and lasts several days to a week. People are likely to get symptoms but, “the most common symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes)” (“About Zika Virus Disease”). There is also muscle pain and headache. This virus is transmitted by a mosquito bite. The Zika virus usually doesn’t get people “sick enough to go to the hospital, and rarely die of Zika” (“About Zika Virus Disease”). The virus usually stays in the body for about a week but it can be found longer. If a person was infected with Zika virus “he or she is likely to be protected from future infections” (“About Zika Virus Disease”).
The Zika virus is a very dangerous disease, as it has spread around the world very quickly. One of these places in this world is Brazil, a country in South America. The Zika virus is one of the many dangerous viruses in the world, because it has no vaccine and no cure. There are about 7,000 deaths reported each year, only though it only lasts for about two to seven days. It was first reported in Uganda, and it did not harm people until it first hit Yap in 2007. Only some places in the world are not inflicted by the Zika virus, which is not many places. Zika is infecting people all over the contiguous United States since, and has become a big problem in the world.
