“Zoot Suit” is about a gang of boys that were in the wrong area at the wrong time. Henry, is the leader of the 36th gang. Which includes: Smiley, Rudy, Tommy, and Joey. To start it off, Henry got jumped by the downey gang while Della witnessed it. Della and Henry then left to get the rest of their gang to go back. They went to the party, but the Downey Gang had already left. The people that were still there thought they were the Downey Gang coming back to cause more trouble, so they attacked them right away. They were then convicted of the murder of Jose Diaz, who was there that night and got killed. Two lawyers named Alice and George, thought their trial was wrongfully convicted. So they went to battle for the boys named Smiley, Henry,Tommy and Joey. They wanted them to have justice because they knew they were not the ones who commited the crime. The judge was wrongfully accusing them because they wore zoot suits.
The book “Zoot Suit” by Luis Valdez was made into a film. In the movie, the scenes are out of order, in an attempt to help the viewer understand better. Also, because it pushes the narrative forward, and keeps the viewer engaged. Some scenes are not as important as others, so they were cut from the film. For instance, the three scenes that were changed in the film, were changed from the book to help the reader understand better. The play and the film are completely different. They have similarities but the biggest difference is that the film jumps back and forth
For example, in act 1 scene 2, and when Cassius was talking to Brutus and telling him an old story of him and Caesar, and in the middle of his talk Brutus left. This something is not mentioned in the play, but the director added it in order to make the scene more dramatic; and to give an impression to the audience that Brutus gets board of Cassius story. Another significant addition, the only appear in the movie is the body language of Marcus Antony which is not mentioned in the book but that is something the director has hand on.
With any comparison between a play and its movie counterpart there are bound to be major differences and key similarities between
differences exist between the original play and the film. Apart from the specific techniques of lighting and
I also had compared Act Two, Scene 3, in the play and the film. The setting in the play is on a Saturday, moving day, one week later. In the film, the setting is the same as the play, with lighting and costumes. The plot in the play is Linder tries to buy back the house from the Younger family. In the film, the plot is the same as the play. The dialogue in the film has some deletions from play; new dialogue is added in replacement of the deleted dialogue. Some film techniques used in this scene are: the film cuts back and forth to different characters, and the room is well lit with the sunshine coming in through the window. Perhaps the biggest
In Summary, with these three examples it is shown that the play and the movie contrast quite a bit. Most of the story line and the dialogue were very similar to the original story in the movie but some things were changed, possibly to shorten the story to be able to make
When adapting a lengthy novel into a film, directors find it rather onerous to include all the details from the original. Ford was presented with the same obstacle during the production of his film. Due to such occurrences, rather than creating a six-hour film, the only recourse was to desert certain material. As seen in The Grapes of Wrath, the scenes followed the same scheme as the novel, but a number of happenings were left absent from the film. This editing, as described in Shared Class Files, “can compress time or extend time.” Ford’s adaptation deleted Steinbeck’s interchapters and animal scenes from the production. Ma’s prominent speech of man was an addition and a divergent ending was even incorporated for the refashioned story in the film. Although the movements, removal and alterations of these segments allow the production to maintain the same subject, the primary messages, themes, and focus points undergo similar adjustments alongside the scenes.
Which was the death of twenty- two-year-old José Gallardo Díaz, a young man who was found nearly dead in Commerce, California on August 2, 1942. Even though his death is still an unknown until this day, Seventeen Mexican- American youths were arrested and held as suspects in prison by the Los Angeles police department without bail and on murder charges. Jude Charles W. Fricke sentenced nine of the seventeen defendants of second- degree murder, on January 13, 1943. Those sentenced served time in San Quentin Prison, the rest were charged with minor offenses and served time in Los Angeles County Jail. What was interesting to me about Luis Valdez’s movie Zoot Suit, is that we see for our eyes how much the Sleepy Lagoon case broke out the zoot suit riots all around Los Angeles, and near by cities. Similarly to Blood in Blood out and American Me, after being released from Prison, Henry is shown as having three different path ways in life, the first is going back to jail, second is joining the Army, and the last is making a family of his own. Henry is being presented with a fresh start to life, he has chance to pick his own fate. Similarly Blood in Blood out (1993) focuses on vicious crime that occurs in Chicano communities. The characters in Blood in Blood out also spent the majority of their time in and out of San Quentin Prison, and once being released they too had chance
To begin, some scenes in the movie were only talked about or made reference to in the play, but in the movie these scenes take place and the viewer actually sees the event happen. For example the scene where the children and
The movie “Nuts” was not only relatable but also had many of the various topics that we had learned about in this class. I relate with Claudia on various personal levels. This movie was so parallel to my past life events that I had to tell my therapist about it because it helped me understand why I am the way I am.
This scene in the movie poorly appropriates a very famous scene in the play and the movie continues thereafter to make clumsy and indiscreet representations of key events in the play; one has to wonder why he made a movie that hinges on so many poorly executed key scenes.
The book Big Fish and its movie adaptation shows the importance of how different factors help to improve the story. This book tells of the legendary stories of Edward Bloom, narrated by his son, William. The tales of Edward Bloom seem fictitious and far too amusing to be real. His son is determined to find the truth in his father's stories in order to understand who his father truly was behind his fantastic stories. The movie does not fail in its interpretation of the novel, in fact the movie could very well be even better. The addition of new scenes and the focus on Edward's love life help the movie tell the story in it's own way, showcasing the brilliance of the art of cinematography. Although the movie takes a different approach from the
In the film Zootopia we see right off the back how a society is shown it may look happy on the outside but picture can be misleading. Although race plays a big part in the movie what I didn’t notice before reading Sir Thomas Moore’s Utopia was that it was much more than that. It was about the society and how people views never really change. Even though the predators and prey lived in peace for many year the prey still felt some way about the predators. Zootopia was very large but the people there had hidden resentment toward each other. This goes with the first quotes “They are generally more set on acquiring new kingdoms, right or wrong than on governing well those possess”. Zootopia full of tall beautiful building but the people there were still unhappy.
Forrest Gump is the type of movie that everyone needs to see. The movie of Forrest Gump starts in 1981, when a stranger sits next to him at a bus stop. That is when Forrest (Tom Hanks) begins to tell his life story. It all starts in the 1950s when Forrest is a young boy. He lives in Greenbow, Alabama and on the first day of school he meets a girl names Jenny Curran (Robin Wright). He does not have many friends because he has to wear leg braces to correct his curved spine. He always has a learning disability. One day he is getting chased by bullies and he starts running and the leg braces fall off, revealing that Forrest is very fast. Later on, he receives a football scholarship to play at Alabama. In 1960, he becomes one of the top running
In the movie Gladiator, Russell Crowe plays a battle hardened Roman General who, through a series of unfortunate events, becomes a gladiator. He starts out on the front lines of a battle against barbarians. The war against them has been going on for some time however this is the final battle that will end the war. The battle rages and the Romans come out victorious. The Caesar then emerges and praises Maximus (Russell Crowe) for his leadership. The Caesar then asks him if he will become Caesar after his death because his son Commodus is not fit to rule. Commodus hates his father’s decision and kills him so his wish will die with him. Commodus then orders Maximus to be killed, he escapes and rides as fast as he can back home but is too late. He comes home to find his wife and son burned alive. He is then captured and sold into slavery where he becomes a gladiator and moves up in the ranks as a skilled fighter. He makes friends with a black slave and they both move together up to larger arenas. He makes it to the Coliseum where he reveals himself to Commodus declaring he will have his vengence. Commodus accepts Maximus’ challenge after delivering a fatal wound to his back. He fights Commodus despite the injury and kills him but then dies himself.
Forrest Gump is a movie that was released in the summer of 1994 and is based on a novel by the same name that was written by Winston Groom almost a decade earlier in 1986. The movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Paramount Pictures. The film features Tom Hanks as the main character Forrest Gump who is a slow-witted character but also has a heart of gold and is extremely courageous. The supporting cast consists of Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan), Robin Wright (Forrest’s mother) , Sally Field(Jenny) , Mykelti Williamson (Bubba), among others. In this critique I will be summarizing the plot and analyzing what I liked and disliked about the movie and whether it stands the test of time.
