This may result in the minority group becoming almost culturally indistinguishable from the majority.
Assimilation may occur gradually, or over a long period of time. It may also be voluntary or enforced. Often, the occurrence of rapid assimilation can be related to it also being forced upon the minority. In such cases the original culture and beliefs of the minority may be wiped out, at least on the surface.
