PROCEDURE
A. Preparation of Acetylsalicylic Acid
1. Weigh 2 g of salicylic acid in a hard glass test tube.
Add 4 mL of acetic anhydride, then carefully add 5 drops of conc. H₂SO4
Swirl the mixture and heat in a water bath (~70-80 °C) until all the salicylic acid has
dissolved.
2.
181
3.
4. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Observe for crystallization of aspirin.
5. Add 20 mL of ice-cold distilled water to complete crystallization. airit lo bro odi 1A
6. Describe the physical state, color, appearance, and odor of the product.asinya
7. Pre-weigh a filter paper or weigh boat. Collect and dry the product and then transfer
it onto your pre-weighed filter paper. Calculate the % yield of the product.
