Expert Solution
Step 1

A simple pendulum is a massive object hung by a string from a fixed support. It typically hangs vertically in its stable equilibrium position. When pendulum is displaced from equilibrium position then restoring torque due to self weight of pendulum results simple harmonic motion. At  vertically lowest point it is in stable equilibrium position and it's potential energy is minimum . At this position as refrence  of pendulum it is more convenient to taking data , Like angle from vertical  , height etc .
