Question

A barista wants to mix coffee that costs $3.75/lb. with coffee that costs $7.25/lb to get 10 lbs of coffee that will cost $5.85/lb. How much of each coffee must the barista use?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Total amount of coffee = 10 lbs

Suppose, the barista mixes x lbs of the first type of coffee with (10 - x) lbs of the second type.

So, x lbs of coffee at the rate of $3.75/lb will cost, $(3.75x)

And, (10 - x) lbs of coffee at the rate of $7.25/lb will cost, $(10-x)×7.25 = $72.5 - $7.25x
