Let helicopter is moving in negative y-direction.

Initial velocity of dropping object is equal to velocity of helicopter.

vip=-vi

Wrench is falling under gravity, so a=-g

After time t speed is;

vf=vw

Using equation of motion we have,

vf=vi+at

Plugging value of velocity and acceleration in above equation we get,

vw=-vi-gt

so,

vw=-vi-gt        =vi+gt
