Question

Assume that the critical stress intensity factor or
fracture toughness ðKIcÞ for a partially stabilized
zirconia is 10 MPa-m1=2. If there is a plate of this
ceramic with a sharp edge notch 100 mm deep and
subjected to a stress of 300 MPa, will this plate be
able to withstand this stress?
