Carefully add 3 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid (being careful not to wet the neck of the flask which will be in contact with the cork stopper), swirl the mixture, stopper tightly with a cork and store at room temperature until the next lab period. NOTE: Extreme care must be exercised in order to avoid contact with concentrated sulfuric acid. It will cause serious burns if it is spilled on the skin. If it comes in contact with the skin or clothes, it must be washed off immediately. In addition, sodium bicarbonate may be used to neutralize the acid. Clean up all spills, immediately!
