Question

Define a thermodynamic system, its boundary, and its surroundings?

Expert Solution
Step 1

A system is a control volume in which thermodynamics analysis is done. The system may be isobaric, isochoric, or isothermal. There are three types of a thermodynamic system: a closed system, open system, or isolated system.
There is an exchange of energy and mass between the system and the surrounding in an open system.
In a closed system, there is an exchange of only energy between the system and surrounding.
There is neither exchange of energy nor the mass between the system and surrounding in an isolated system.
