To find empirical formula following procedure should be followed .

  • Divide the percentages of different elements with their atomic weights to get relative number of atoms also called atomic ratio.
  • Select smallest atomic ratio and divide all the atomic ratios with this number to get simple ratio of atoms.
  • Simple ratio corresponds to empirical formula of compound .
