Question

What is the distance a freely falling object will fall at 3 seconds, starting from rest?

I know that gravity would be 9.8 and time is 3 seconds.  Wouldn't that mean that it would be 9.8m every second?  (Apparently that is incorrect, so I'm wondering how to figure this out.)
