Expert Solution
Solution :-

Given : sin(x) = -3/5 and lies in Q3 and cos(y) = 5/13 and lies in Q4.

tan(x+y) = sin(x+y)/cos(x+y) =[sin(x)cos(y)+cos(x)sin(y)]/[cos(x)cos(y)-sin(x)sin(y)]   ...(1)

cos(x) = √1-sin2(x) = √1-(-3/5)2

                              = 4/5

where, cos(x) Q3 negitive

cos(x) = -4/5

sin(y) = √1-cos2(y) = √1-(5/13)2

                               = 12/13

where, sin(y) Q4 negitive

sin(y) = -12/13

from (1)

tan(x+y) = [(-3/5)(5/13)+(-4/5)(-12/13)]/[(4/5)(5/13)-(-3/5)(-12/13)]

  = [(-15/65)+(48/65)]/[(20/65)-(36/65)]

  = (33/65)/(-16/65)

  = -33/16
