How many oxygen atoms are in 4.00 g of quartz?

check_circle

Expert Answer

Step 1

Quartz is nothing but SiO2

2 moles of oxygen atoms per mole of SiO2

mass of quartz (SiO2) given = 4 g

moles of SiO2 = mass of quartz/molar mass of SiO2

molar mass of SiO2 = 60.1 g/mol

So,

moles of quartz = 4 g/60.1 g/mol = 0.0665 mol

We already know that 1 mole of SiO2 has 2 moles of Oxygen in it.

So, 4 g quartz will have = 2 x 0.0665 mol = 0.1331 mol Oxygen

To get number of atom,s we have to multiply moles with avogadro's...
