Cahn-ingold-prelog rule

According to this rule if the spatial arrangement of a an isomer in clockwise direction and the lowest priority group is below the plane then it is known as R isomer and the configuration is called R-configuration.

While the spatial arrangement of an isomer in anticlockwise direction and the lowest priority group is below the plane then it is known as S- isomer and the configuration is called S- Configuration.
