Question

If I got a 20-µF capacitor connected in series with a 1.2-mH coil. What is the resonant frequency of this connection?

Expert Solution
Step 1

When elements like resistors (R), capacitors (C) and inductors (L) are excited by an a.c. (alternating current) source, the phenomenon of resonance is observed. This phenomenon can be observed in both series and parallel a.c. circuits.

In an electrical circuit consisting of elements like resistance, inductance or capacitance, resonance refers to a particular scenario of the circuit when with respect to the excitation, the current or the voltage in the circuit becomes maximum or minimum at a particular frequency. This frequency at which the impedance of the circuit is either maximum or minimum at unity power factor is called the resonance frequency (f0).
