Liposomes can be made by vigorously mixing phospholipids(like phosphatidylcholine) in water. When the mixture isallowed to settle, spherical vesicles form that are surroundedby a phospholipid bilayer “membrane.” Pharmaceuticalchemists are trying to develop liposomes as a targeted drugdelivery system. By adding the drug of choice to the mixturedescribed above, liposomes form around the solution of thedrug. Specific proteins can be incorporated into the mixturethat will end up within the phospholipid bilayers of theliposomes. Micelles and Biological Membrane

Micelles are the type of lipid molecules that organize themselves in spherical shape in aqueous solutions. The production of the micelle is a reply to the amphipathic behavior of fatty acids. It means that they consist of both hydrophobic regions and hydrophilic regions. In micelles, polar head groups (hydrophilic groups) produce an outer layer associated with water whereas nonpolar tails (hydrophobic groups) are organized in the interior.
