INTRODUCTION
Muscles are bundles of specialized cells in the body that contract to produce movement. They are made up of proteins, primarily actin and myosin, and are responsible for the body's ability to move, as well as for providing support for other body systems. Muscles also assist with breathing, digestion, and other activities. Types of muscle include skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle. Muscle contractions, along with other mechanisms, are responsible for the body's ability to maintain posture and balance.
MUSCLES (Multi-Scale Coupled-Lattice Simulation) is an open-source, mesoscale-discretized, spatially-resolved, and reaction-diffusion-based simulation framework. It has been designed to study the macroscopic properties of cellular-level processes that occur in living systems.
