Question

Animals and plant both have diploid and haploid cells. How does the animal life cycle differ from the alternation of generations exhibitied by plants

Expert Solution
Step 1

Alternation of generation is the presence of both haploid and diploid life forms in the life cycle of an organism. It does not depend on the free-living nature of the organism. It occurs in both predominantly in plants. Life cycles that include the alternation of generations such as haploid and diploid stages are known as diplohaplontic life cycle as in plants and algae. Life cycles including only diploid multicellular stages are known as diplontic while the life cycle having only haploid stages in their life cycle is known as haplontic.
