Question
Write a structural formula for the product from Friedel-Crafts alkylation or acylation of benzene with compound
Expert Solution
Step 1
Friedel-crafts reactions can be described as introduction of alkyl group or acyl group to the aromatic rings which can be done by reacting the alkyl halide or acyl halide in the presence of Lewis acid i.e. anhydrous aluminium chloride catalyst. Friedel–Crafts reactions are of two types namely alkylation reactions (where alkyl halide is used) and acylation reactions (acyl halide is used). Both the reactions proceeds by electrophilic aromatic substitution.
