11. The ACGIH TLV-TWA for ethyl bromide is 5 ppm.
a. What does that correspond to in mg/m³? (assume NTP)
b. Using the exposure measurements below (taken during a single shift), determine the
worker's TWA exposure. Was the TLV-TWA exceeded?

c. If a short-term increase in demand results in longer work hours/weeks, what should
the adjusted TLV-TWA be (based on the ACGIH value above)?
Assume the new shifts are 11 hrs per day and 6 days per week
(make your recommendation using the more-conservative estimate).

Introduction

The threshold limit value (TLV) is considered to be  a level to which a worker can be exposed per shift in the worktime without adverse effects . ACGIH publishes TLV guidelines and indices for use by industrial hygienists in making decisions regarding safe levels of exposure to various chemical and physical agents found in the workplace. TWA -TLV stands for Time Weighted Average of Threshold Limit Value, and quantifies the average level of exposure of a worker over a 8 hour shift , usually calculated as a weighted average of 6 day weekly recordings.
