Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by a bacterium known as Streptococcus pneumoniae. The other pathogenic bacteria that cause pneumonia are Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Legionella pneumophila, and Chlamydia pneumoniae.
