Question
What are the basic layers of the wall of alimentary canal?
Expert Solution
Step 1
Alimentary canal is the tract through which the food passes from mouth to the anus. It is also known as gastrointestinal tract. The mouth, stomach, esophagus, and intestines are the part of this tract. It takes food in, digest it to absorb and extract the nutrients and energy, and excrete the remaining waste material as feces.
Step 2
The walls of the alimentary canal contain four basic layers. From inside to outside these layers are named as: mucosa, submucosa, muscularis (muscularis externa), and serosa. Each layer contains a different tissue type and plays different crucial roles in the breakdown of food.
