- Give only typing answer with explanation and conclusion Which of the following statements is/are incorrect? (6,25 p) I- In order for an organic compound to be a dyestuff, it must be chromor and auxochrochrome. II- Hydroxyl or amino groups can be given as examples of chromophore groups III- Decrease of chromophore groups in a molecule causes color deepening. A. b) II, III B. a) I only C. d) II only D. c) III onlyIt is not B or CDiscuss the meaning of the term chirality in organic chemistry? Include in your discussion the different ways in which chirality is identified and how to determine chirality by designating priority groups.
- I'm confused as to why the chiral centers are the was they are. I understand that the horizontal lines are wedged and vertical are dashed. Wouldn't the first priority be the carboxylic acid, then alcohol, the carbon, and then the hydrogen? The book is saying that one method is to keep two of the straight lines and pick one group to be dashed and one to be wedged. Then switch the last priority group (H) with whatever group you chose to be on the dash. Whatever configuration you get, make it the opposite since you switched groups. And when I use this method I end up getting S when the top one should be R.A) How many stereocentres are present in the molecule? B) Is the molecule chiral? Does it contain planes of symmetry? Briefly explain using the evidence for your answer. C) Are the models you have just built enantiomers?Analyze the CNMR for the molecular formula C8H8O3 (vanillin). Be very specific in explaining why the CNMR data proves that the structure is indeed vanillin.
- A) Considering compounds 2a through 2l, identify: 1)one pair of geometric isomers 2)two pairs of enantiomers and 3)three pairs of identical molecules B) Give the names, including the configurations, of each of the geometric isomers and of each of the enantiomers identified in 1A and 1B. Draw the relevant structures. C) Sort compounds 2a, 2b, 2c, 2f and 2k in order of increasing solubility in water and briefly justify. Is it possible to prepare a 17% dye solution from a 4% dye solution?
